Some sites slipped. Others disappeared. Alopex clients climbed higher. Their visibility, clicks, and reach grew because the groundwork was solid long before the tremor hit.\n\nMany business owners question whether SEO really works. They should. Too many agencies promise rankings and deliver confusion. Alopex takes a different approach. We measure what matters and show the proof. The results below tell the story.\n\n## Real Results Across Industries\n\nGoogle updates its algorithm throughout the year to improve how it reads quality and intent. Most changes are small, but this one carried more weight and reshaped rankings across multiple fields.\n\nEach update tests the strength of a site’s foundation. Google favors those that are fast, trustworthy, and clearly structured. When the new update rolled out, Alopex clients held their ground and gained visibility while competitors tried to regain footing.\n\nThe data below shows how consistency wins even when the ground moves.\n\n### Client Highlights\n\nAcross industries, Alopex clients climbed in both position and engagement. These gains reflect sound strategy, strong code, and content built for real users.\n\n* Stitt Construction: +52% position, +41.7% CTR\n* Spirit of Alaska: +49% position, +34% CTR\n* Walker Landscapes: +13 positions, +155% CTR\n* Rafelito’s: +47% position, +12% clicks\n* Last Frontier Motorcycle: +32% visibility\n\n\n\nEach result represents authentic growth achieved through careful, standards-based SEO.\n\n![](/static/images/alo-upside_snip_opt.jpg)\n\n### What It Shows\n\nThe data confirms that thoughtful, well-planned optimization works better than quick tricks or shortcuts.\n\nHere’s what stands out:\n\n* Structure drives strength. Clean code and organized hierarchy helped these sites rise when rankings shifted.\n* Relevance wins. Content focused on genuine user needs outperformed keyword stuffing and shortcuts.\n* Ongoing refinement sustains growth. Continuous improvement kept gains steady after the update.\n\nWhy Steady SEO Wins Every Time\n\nThe way people search keeps shifting with new phrases, questions, and intent. Sites that continue refining their SEO stay visible while others fade.\n\nSo what fuels growth that keeps accelerating instead of stalling?\n\n* It adapts. Optimization evolves with new trends, user behavior, and technology.\n* It connects. Code, content, and credibility function together to support performance.\n* It compounds. Each improvement strengthens the next, creating lasting progress.\n* It serves people. Google rewards sites that provide clarity and value to real users.\n\n\\\n**Bottom line**: SEO done right keeps gaining strength with every cycle. That’s the Alopex difference. We turn constant change into consistent results.*\n\n## The Alopex Fusion Framework\n\nGrowth like this begins with intent, not luck. It comes from a system that blends proven SEO standards with creative strategy. We call it The Alopex Fusion Framework, a full-spectrum model built to keep your site strong, visible, and adaptable no matter how often Google shifts direction.\n\n### Industry Standards We Build Upon\n\nBefore innovation, there must be structure. The Alopex Fusion Framework is grounded in trusted SEO principles that the industry relies on. We strengthen those standards and connect them to each client’s long-term goals.\n\nThe Core SEO Pillars Framework\n\nThink of your website like a building. Every structure that stands tall needs four solid pillars:\n\n* Technical SEO — The blueprint and wiring that make everything run smoothly. It’s the code, performance, and structure that help search engines understand your site.\n* Content Optimization — The words and visuals that show what you do and why it matters. Clear, relevant content helps both people and Google see your value.\n* Authority Building — The reputation you earn from other credible sites linking to yours. It signals trust and reliability.\n* User Experience (UX) — The way visitors feel when they land on your site. Easy navigation, fast load times, and mobile performance all build confidence and engagement.\n\n\\\n*Together, these pillars form the base of lasting visibility and strong engagement*\n\n#### The E-E-A-T Framework\n\nGoogle measures quality through four core values: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.\\\n\\\nAlopex integrates each one:\n\n* Experience — Demonstrated proof that your business delivers what it claims.\n* Expertise — Accurate, helpful content that informs and builds credibility.\n* Authoritativeness — Recognition from trusted sources and clear brand consistency.\n* Trustworthiness — Secure design and honest presentation that inspire confidence.\n\n\\\n*These are what makes real users stay, click, and buy.*\n\n### The Fusion Model in Action\n\nThe Fusion Framework brings every part of SEO together so your site grows stronger over time. Each layer supports the next, building structure, visibility, and credibility.\n\n#### Foundation\n\nThis is the groundwork and includes technical SEO. It involves clean code, a clear page hierarchy, and schema markup, which is the behind-the-scenes language that helps Google understand your site. A solid foundation keeps your pages fast, secure, and easy to read for both people and search engines.\n\n#### Fuel\n\nThis stage shapes your content strategy. Metadata, such as page titles and descriptions, acts like a label on a store shelf, showing searchers what each page offers before they click. Headings help organize information so visitors can easily follow your message. Internal links connect related pages, guiding people to explore more while helping search engines understand how your content fits together. Even images matter: using descriptive file names and alt text reinforces your topics.\n\n#### Ignition\n\nOnce the structure and content are in place, authority adds power. Backlinks from trusted websites, strong local listings, and positive reviews show search engines that your site is reliable and worth ranking higher..\n\n#### Orbit\n\nThe final stage keeps progress steady. Alopex uses reporting tools and performance tracking to see how visitors move through your site and what content attracts attention. Those insights guide regular improvements that maintain growth and keep results climbing.\n\nTogether, these parts work like a well-tended garden. When the soil is healthy, the layout is planned, and care is consistent, growth becomes natural and lasting.\n\n## Continuous Growth and Client Confidence\n\nSEO should never feel uncertain. Alopex keeps progress visible through clear reporting and open communication. Clients always know what’s working, where improvements are made, and how those changes impact real results.\n\nRegular analytics reviews keep every site aligned with shifting search behavior and keyword trends. When the market moves, we adjust quickly to maintain growth and stability.\n\nOver time, this partnership creates more than performance gains. It builds trust. Clients stay informed, confident, and backed by a team that treats their business like its own.\n\n## Doing It Right Pays Off Every Time\n\nGoogle rewarded Alopex clients for solid SEO foundations and consistent strategy. The results prove that real optimization creates measurable growth.\n\nMost websites don’t fail because the business is weak. They fall short because their SEO is incomplete or left behind after launch. Alopex clients see lasting results because every detail is handled with precision, from structure to storytelling.\n\nYou deserve to know what your marketing is doing. With Alopex, progress is visible, results are clear, and growth is built to last\n\nThe next algorithm quake is coming. Let’s make it your opportunity. For Alaska tourism businesses, that means it needs to instantly communicate what you offer, why it’s worth booking, and how to do it. We reviewed top tourism sites to uncover common pitfalls and practical fixes—from homepage messaging to branding, layout, and calls-to-action—so your website can start working as hard as you do.","slug":"making-a-great-alaska-tourism-website","body":"![Alaska Toursim Owner Climbing Glacier Ccrevasse](/static/images/alaska-toursim-owner-climbing-glacier.jpeg)\n\n\\\nMost visitors aren’t casually browsing your site. They’re planning a long-anticipated trip to Alaska and want answers fast. What do you offer? How much does it cost? Can they book it now?\n\nIf your homepage doesn’t answer those questions immediately, you're probably losing business.\n\nOur team at Alopex Interaction Design reviewed a range of Alaska tourism websites to see how well they communicate, convert, and reflect the brands behind them.\n\n## First Impressions Count More Than Ever\n\nYour homepage needs to do two things very well: tell visitors what you offer and help them take action. That starts with:\n\n1. A strong explanation of your adventure or tour\n2. Visual identity that’s easy to recognize and remember\n3. A call-to-action button that’s obvious and accessible\n\nWebsites that do this well lead with compelling imagery, highlight their most popular services, and make it effortless to take the next step. On the other hand, if your booking button is hard to find, if your photos are dull or repetitive, or if your message takes too long to get across, users will likely move on.\n\n## Tourism Branding in Alaska Often Misses the Mark\n\nMany companies fall back on familiar Alaska visuals like mountains, wildlife, or the state outline. While these feel regionally relevant, they don’t help a business stand apart.\n\nStrong branding should reflect how your experience feels. Is it rugged? Luxurious? Serene? Adventurous? Choose a clear direction and build around that idea.\n\nLogos should be versatile and recognizable even at small sizes. Color palettes should reinforce your identity and stand out from the crowd. And your overall design should feel consistent across your website, print materials, and signage.\n\nWhen in doubt, keep it simple, distinct, and memorable.\n\n## Layout and Visual Mistakes That Drive People Away\n\nEven strong [branding](https://alopexid.com/services/branding/) can’t overcome a confusing layout. When a site feels clunky or poorly styled, users lose trust and interest.\n\n### Poor Readability Hurts Trust\n\nText that blends into busy photo backgrounds or lacks contrast can make your content hard to read. If visitors struggle to scan your site, they’re more likely to leave than dig for answers.\n\n### Weak Buttons Lead to Missed Bookings\n\nPassive calls-to-action like “Learn More” don’t create urgency. Replace them with clear, confident language like “Book Now” or “Start Your Adventure.” Buttons should stand out visually and guide users toward the next step.\n\n### Inconsistent Visuals Disrupt Flow\n\nIcons, images, and layouts should feel intentional. Mismatched graphics, uneven image sizes, or overused stock photos make the site feel disorganized. A clean, consistent design builds trust and makes navigation smoother.\n\n## Reviews Should Be Easy to Spot\n\nTravelers rely on reviews, especially for remote or unfamiliar destinations. But even glowing testimonials won’t help if no one sees them.\n\nMake sure your top ratings from TripAdvisor, Google, or other platforms are placed high on the page. Use visual cues people instantly recognize, like yellow stars or platform logos. Let your happy customers build trust for you.\n\n## Easy Fixes to Improve Your Alaska Tourism Website\n\nYou don’t always need a full redesign. A handful of smart, targeted tweaks can make a big difference in how your site feels and functions:\n\n* Place the “Book Now” button in a spot that’s easy to find\n* Make sure text is easy to read and your content flows clearly\n* Show real people enjoying your tours, not just pretty landscapes\n* Keep your navigation simple and easy to follow\n* Swap out generic icons for visuals that actually fit your brand\n\nThese tweaks help your site feel more authentic, more trustworthy, and more likely to turn a visitor into a customer.\n\n> Design isn’t about whether we can do it. It’s about why we’re doing it. \n>\n> ## Your Website Should Be Doing the Selling for You\n\nAlaska tourism sells itself in many ways, but your website still needs to make the case. That means reducing friction, offering shortcuts, and helping users quickly find the information they care about most.\n\nThe length of your page isn’t the issue. What matters is how well it's structured. Lead with your strongest visuals and clearest offers, then provide more depth for users who need convincing.\n\nAvoid forcing users to bounce between too many subpages. Most prefer to scroll, as long as the content is relevant and easy to follow. You want people to be engaged enough to find the information they need. Use expandable sections to manage long content, repeat key booking prompts, and always make it easy to take the next step.\n\n## Why Leading Tourism Brands Choose Alopex for Website Design\n\nSome agencies start with, “What can we do?” We start with, “What’s the right thing to do for this business?”\n\nThat level of intention guides every decision we make. We don’t design based on trends or templates, and we don’t just use techniques because we know how. Every decision (layout, colors, typography, button placement) has a purpose. We ask why before we ask how.\n\nIf you're ready to work with a team that thinks deeply, cares about the details, and builds with purpose, we’re here to help. \n\nLet’s turn your ideas into something powerful. Branded portals are built for how Alaska contractors actually work.","slug":"branded-bid-portals-for-alaska-contractors","body":"![Alaska Construction Owner using Alopex created Branded Bid Portal](/static/images/alaska-construction-owner.jpg)\n\nPicture this: You’re in the middle of a big construction job. Subcontractors are texting, emailing, calling, and you’ve got documents scattered across inboxes, sticky notes, your Google Drive, and maybe a few crumpled papers in the truck.\n\nSound familiar?\n\nNow imagine if everything from bid invites and submitted forms to deadlines, updates, and even your logo lived in one clean, professional online hub built just for your company.\n\nYou might need a simple place to receive proposals, or a more advanced setup with tracking and reminders. Either way, your portal can be tailored to fit how your company and crew work best.\n\nThat’s the power of a branded bid portal. Never heard of it? No problem. It may sound like fancy high-tech, but it’s the one crew member who’s never late, never forgets, and actually likes paperwork.\n\n## What Is a Branded Bid Portal?\n\nThink of a branded bid portal like a custom-built job trailer, but online.\n\nJust like a job trailer serves as the central hub on a construction site, a branded bid portal is your digital command center. It’s the one place where everything comes together. Plans get reviewed, schedules are posted, documents are shared, and subcontractors check in to see what’s needed. Unlike a physical trailer, though, this hub is always open. It’s accessible anytime, from any device, whether you’re in the office, on the job site, or out in the field.\n\n### A Central Hub for Everything\n\nInstead of juggling emails, texts, and scattered file-sharing links, everything lives in one place:\n\n* Project documents\n* Bid invitations\n* Communication threads\n* Deadlines and due dates\n\nProject partners know exactly where to go, what to submit, and when it’s due. That clarity makes the bid process smoother, more professional, and far more efficient.\n\n### Built to Match Your Brand\n\nThis isn’t a generic portal — it’s designed around your company. Your logo, your colors, your workflow. It looks and feels like an extension of your business, not a third-party tool.\n\n### A Better Fit for Alaska Contractors\n\nFor construction teams in Alaska, where logistics and communication can already be a challenge, a branded portal offers a more streamlined, reliable, and organized way to manage project proposals and documents. It’s a tool that works as hard as you do.\n\n## Branded Bid Portal Features That Solve Real Construction Challenges\n\nDeadlines slip. Files get lost. Crews send the wrong version, or nothing at all. The problem isn’t the people. It’s the system.\n\nA branded bid portal brings structure to the way proposals are managed. Contractors reviewing submissions and teams sharing opportunities with subcontractors all face the same goal — keeping everything organized, on time, and professional. On larger projects, this may be part of a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Regardless of what you call it, a branded portal helps you share documents, track activity, manage deadlines, and send follow-ups—all in one place and fully aligned with your brand.\n\nWith version control, instant downloads, centralized communication, and easy access from any device, it’s a smarter way to manage bids from start to finish.\n\nHere’s what that looks like in practice:\n\n### Everything Lives in One Place\n\nDrawings, specs, insurance forms, and safety policies are all organized by project and easy to find. Subcontractors can access everything from a single link with no login required. That means instant downloads, quick access, and fewer “Can you resend that?” messages.\n\n### Secure, Flexible Access\n\nYou stay in control of who sees what. Set permissions by role, limit visibility to certain teams, and choose between open access links or password-protected views. From a few trusted partners to a wide network of subcontractors, you can easily share the right information with the right people.\n\n### Submit, Track, Repeat\n\nSubcontractors can upload proposals directly into the portal, which means you don’t have to dig through your inbox or wonder if something got lost. You can also track activity and see who opened the invite, who submitted, and when. It’s a simple way to stay in the loop without chasing people down.\n\n### A More Professional Presentation\n\nThe portal looks and feels just like your company. With your logo, colors, and layout, it presents a clean, consistent interface that’s easy to use. It leaves a strong impression regardless if you're working with subcontractors, owners, or clients.\n\n### Deadlines Stay Top of Mind\n\nYou can set due dates and let the system handle the rest. Automated follow-ups remind subs when something’s coming due, which helps reduce no-shows and last-minute scrambles. Everyone stays on schedule, and you don’t have to send ten reminder emails to get there.\n\n### Version Control Without the Guesswork\n\nWhen multiple subs are revising and resubmitting documents, it’s easy to lose track of the latest version. The portal helps with version control, so the most current version is always clear, helping you avoid reviewing outdated files.\n\n### Designed for the Way Construction Teams Actually Work\n\nAt the end of the day, a branded bid portal is a purpose-built tool for construction teams. It organizes the bid process, keeps everyone aligned, and saves time from kickoff to completion.\n\n## Why More Alaska Builders Are Turning to Branded Portals\n\nBranded bid portals are gaining popularity because they keep everything organized, improve security, and reduce the stress and delays that often come with managing bids. They help save time and keep the process moving smoothly, whether you're reviewing proposals or sending them out\n\nThe difference becomes clear when you compare the day-to-day realities of working with and without a branded system in place.\n\n| No Branded Bid Portal                               | With a Branded Bid Portal                                 |\n| --------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |\n| Emails, texts and calls across mulitplie platforms | Everything in on centralized,  branded hub                |\n| Subcontractors asking, \"Where's the file?\"          | Instant downloads and one-click access                    |\n| Confusion over deadlines or missing submissions    | Clear due dates with automatic reminders                  |\n| Lost or outdated versions of proposals             | Built-in version control keeps the latest file visible    |\n| Manually tracking who responded (or didn't)        | Activity tracking shows who opened, submitted, or stalled |\n| Repetitive follow-ups to subs                      | Automated follow-up emails and alerts                     |\n| Unclear file organization by project               | Documents sorted by project, folder, or submission type   |\n| Disjointed communication threads                   | Centralized messaging tied to each project                |\n| Little to no control over who sees what            | Role-based access and optional password protection        |\n| No visibility into who downloaded what             | Activity logs and controlled access to sensitive files    |\n\n## Helping Alaska Contractors Work Smarter with Branded Portals\n\nEvery contractor operates a little differently. Some want a straightforward way to organize proposal documents, while others need a more customized system with automation and integrations.\n\nRather than overwhelm you with every possible feature, we focus on what fits your workflow best.\n\nYour portal might include:\n\n* A branded subdomain like bids.yourcompany.com\n* Clean, intuitive layouts built for field and office use\n* Secure file access with role-based permissions\n* Integration with Google Drive, Dropbox, or SharePoint\n* Mobile-responsive design that works on any device\n\nWe’ll set it up to match how your company actually works and scale it as your projects grow.\n\n## Want Something Simple? Or Fully Customized?\n\nAlopex can help you simplify how your team handles proposals and project documents.\n\nSome teams just need a clean, easy place to stay organized. Familiarize Yourself with Keywords and Keyword Research Techniques\n\nUnderstanding the keywords your potential customers use is the first step toward effective SEO. This knowledge helps you tailor your website content to match what people are searching for.\n\nChoose keywords that are relevant to your business and have a good balance between search volume and competition. Focus on **long-tail keywords** (phrases with three or more words) since they are usually less competitive and more specific to your offerings.\n\n### How to Do It\n\nBegin by identifying the words and phrases your potential customers use when searching for products or services like yours. Here’s a simple way to start:\n\n1. **Brainstorm**\n\n   List down terms related to your business, products, services, and location.\n2. **Use Tools**\n\n   Utilize free keyword research tools such as [Google Keyword Planner](https://ads.google.com/home/tools/keyword-planner/), [Ubersuggest](https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/), or [AnswerThePublic](https://answerthepublic.com/) to find popular keywords.\n3. **Analyze Competitors**\n\n   Look at the keywords your competitors are targeting by visiting their websites or using tools like [SEMrush](https://www.semrush.com/?irclickid=RnmVD4TpwxyKWLPxCn0i6QfwUkCXx8UvUzb6W40&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsOq6BhDuARIsAGQ4-zijpR5gzHSQuAHQKaftZfyhrR4m9oBYLaoLityKvUIt6lWP8zbcxzYaAhWOEALw_wcB).\n\n### Why You're Doing It\n\nKeywords are the foundation of SEO.\n\nBy targeting the right keywords, you ensure that your website appears in search results when potential customers are looking for what you offer. This increases your chances of attracting organic traffic and converting visitors into customers.\n\n## 2. Set Page SEO Titles and SEO Descriptions\n\nOptimizing your page titles and descriptions helps search engines understand the content of your pages and improves how your site appears in search results.\n\nEach page needs a unique SEO title and description. Incorporate your primary keywords naturally, and make sure the titles and descriptions accurately reflect the page's content.\n\n### How to Do It\n\nSquarespace makes it easy to set SEO titles and descriptions for each page:\n\n1. **Log In**\n\n   Access your [Squarespace account](https://account.squarespace.com/) and navigate to the page you want to optimize.\n\n   ![Navigate Squarespace](https://alopexid.com/images/squarespace-page-nav.png \"Squarespace website page navigation\")\n2. **Page Settings**\n\n   Click the gear icon (⚙️) next to the page name to open Page Settings.\n\n   ![Page settings](https://alopexid.com/images/squarespace_page_settings.png \"Page settings\")\n3. **SEO Tab**\n\n   Go to the “SEO” tab within Page Settings.\n\n   ![Accessing Squarespace SEO settings](https://alopexid.com/images/squarespace_seo_settings_tab.png \"Squarespace SEO Settings\")\n4. **SEO Title**\n\n   Enter a concise and descriptive title for the page (up to 70 characters).\n\n   ![Accessing Squarespace SEO title settings](https://alopexid.com/images/squarespace_seo_title.png \"Squarespace SEO Title Settings\")\n5. **SEO Description**\n\n   Write a compelling description (up to 160 characters) that includes your primary keywords.\n\n   ![Accessing Squarespace SEO description settings](https://alopexid.com/images/squarespace_seo_description.png \"Squarespace SEO Description Settings\")\n\n### Why You're Doing It\n\nSEO titles and descriptions are what appear in search engine results. \n\nA well-crafted title and description can improve your click-through rate, making users more likely to visit your website. Additionally, alt text enhances accessibility for visually impaired users, providing a better browsing experience.\n\n## 4. Rename Image File Names to Reflect Image Alt Text\n\nMaking sure your image file names are descriptive and consistent with your alt text further optimizes your site's SEO.\n\nAlways rename your image files directly within Squarespace to include primary keywords related to the image and your content. But ads are only the surface of what marketing truly entails.\n\nMarketing is a dynamic, multifaceted process that drives growth by connecting businesses to their audiences. It overlaps with other disciplines, evolves with the times, and often succeeds through subtle efforts rather than bold campaigns.\n\n## Marketing Overlaps with Other Disciplines\n\nMarketing doesn’t work in isolation. It overlaps with other essential areas of business, amplifying their impact and contributing to your success.\n\n### Overlap with PR and Communications\n\nMarketing and PR share a common goal: connecting with audiences and building trust. While marketing focuses on campaigns and branding, PR strengthens your reputation and manages relationships with media and the public. Together, they create a cohesive narrative for your business.\n\nEven internal communication benefits from marketing principles. A well-aligned brand starts within, ensuring employees understand and embody your mission.\n\n### Guiding Business Strategy\n\nMarketing is more than an amplifier — consider it a driver of business strategy. By analyzing audience behavior, market trends, and competition, marketing can shape product development, pricing, and target market decisions. \n\nIt’s a critical tool for making smarter, data-driven decisions.\n\n## Marketing vs Sales: A Relationship That Drives Growth\n\nIt’s easy to conflate marketing with sales, but these two functions have distinct roles that work together to build your business.\n\n### Marketing Attracts, But Sales Converts\n\nMarketing draws people in. It builds awareness, sparks curiosity, and engages audiences through compelling content and creative campaigns. Once the audience is interested, sales take over — nurturing relationships, addressing objections, and sealing the deal.\n\nNever assume that marketing is what gets you sales. Marketing brings you leads. Sales make sales.\n\n### The Perfect Partnership\n\nWhen marketing and sales collaborate, they create a powerful engine for growth. Marketing supplies a steady flow of qualified leads, while sales provide feedback that improves marketing strategies. \n\nThis symbiotic relationship ensures that no opportunity goes to waste.\n\n## The Subtle Side of Marketing\n\nMarketing isn’t always loud and attention-grabbing. Some of the most effective efforts work quietly, building momentum over time and influencing decisions in ways that aren’t always immediately visible.\n\n### Building Awareness Over Time\n\nA consistent social media presence, insightful blog posts, or well-placed sponsorships might not deliver instant results, but they create familiarity and trust with your audience. \n\nThese subtle efforts build the foundation for future success.\n\n### The Invisible Impact\n\nMarketing also works behind the scenes. Word-of-mouth recommendations, organic mentions on social media, and even the way your brand is discussed casually among peers all stem from deliberate strategies that influence perception.\n\n### Long-Term Efforts That Pay Off\n\nEfforts like [SEO](/news/seo-glance/), [rebranding](/services/branding/), and thought leadership don’t show results overnight. \n\nThey require patience and persistence but often yield the most significant long-term rewards. Marketing is about planting seeds today to harvest growth tomorrow.\n\n## Why Marketing is Always Changing\n\nMarketing evolves alongside culture, technology, and consumer expectations. Businesses that fail to adapt risk falling behind, while those that embrace change thrive.\n\n### Adapting to Industry Trends\n\nFrom AI tools and personalized content to shifting consumer behavior, staying informed is critical for staying competitive. Successful marketing teams are proactive, adopting new strategies and technologies before they become the norm.\n\n### Recognizing External Influences\n\nMarketing isn’t only shaped by industry trends — it’s influenced by the world at large. Social movements, economic shifts, and cultural moments can reshape how brands communicate. Great marketers keep their fingers on the pulse, adjusting strategies to remain relevant and resonant.\n\n### A Commitment to Keep Learning\n\nTo succeed in marketing, businesses must stay curious and open to change. Continuous learning ensures that strategies remain influential and forward-thinking, even in a constantly evolving landscape.\n\n## Marketing That Goes Beyond Ads\n\nMarketing’s impact isn’t always immediate or obvious, and that’s the beauty of it. A thoughtful strategy plants seeds today that grow into trust, recognition, and loyalty over time. It’s not just about grabbing attention—it’s about earning it.\n\nWhen you’re ready to move beyond short-term tactics and build a foundation for lasting growth, the right partner can make all the difference.\n\nAlopex Interaction Design focuses on doing what works, not just what’s flashy. How do you separate the experts from the amateurs? A great agency isn’t defined by buzzwords or flashy promises — it’s about delivering results through a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and creative innovation.\n\nTo help you make the best choice, here’s a breakdown of what to look for, what to avoid, and how to evaluate agencies to find the perfect partner for your business.\n\n## Red Flags to Avoid\n\nNot all agencies operate at the same level, and partnering with the wrong one can lead to wasted time and money. These red flags can help you spot subpar agencies before signing a contract:\n\n1. **Outdated Practices**\n\n   Agencies still relying on keyword stuffing or spammy email tactics are stuck in the past and can hurt your brand. Look for teams that stay on top of modern trends.\n2. **Big Promises with No Evidence**\n\n   Beware of claims like “We guarantee #1 on Google!” or “Double your revenue in 30 days!” A trustworthy agency sets realistic goals and backs them up with data.\n3. **One-Size-Fits-All Strategies**\n\n   If an agency presents a templated plan without asking about your business goals or challenges, they aren’t the right fit. Your strategy should be as unique as your business.\n4. **Lack of Transparency**\n\n   Agencies that avoid discussing pricing, deliverables, billing practices, or performance metrics likely have something to hide. Transparency is a must for building trust.\n\nSpotting these issues early can save you headaches and ensure you’re working with a team that values your success as much as you do.\n\n## Services to Expect from a Top-Tier Agency in Alaska\n\nA high-caliber digital marketing agency doesn’t just handle one or two tasks—it delivers a comprehensive range of services designed to elevate your brand from every angle. Here’s what you should expect from the best:\n\n### In-House Web Development and UX Design\n\nCrafting [high-performing websites](/services/website-support-management/) with seamless user experiences to drive conversions and build trust. This should be done in-house, so be sure to ask who does their development. \n\nIf they farm it out, they don’t take everything as seriously as they need to.\n\n### Strategic Campaign Management\n\nComprehensive [campaign management](/services/marketing-strategy/) ensures that all marketing efforts — whether digital or traditional — are cohesive, strategic, and results-driven. Ask about their process for cross-platform campaigns. \n\nIf they can’t provide examples of integrated strategies, they may lack the expertise needed to bring it all together.\n\n### Graphic Design and Visual Branding\n\nYour [brand’s identity](/services/branding/) lives and dies on how it looks. Exceptional graphic design creates lasting impressions while aligning with your brand voice and mission. \n\nConfirm that their designers are part of the agency’s in-house team. Outsourcing design and brand work often leads to inconsistent branding and delays.\n\n### Content Creation and Copywriting\n\nEngaging, [high-quality content](/news/what-is-scalable-content/) builds trust, drives engagement, and positions your brand as an authority. Content should resonate with your audience whether it’s blogs, emails, or ad copy. \n\nAsk how they tailor their content strategies to different platforms and clients. Also ask them who writes those words and whether or not they use AI to do so. Agencies that take a one-size-fits-all approach or over-leverage artificial intelligence may be cutting corners — especially in content creation.\n\n### Data Analytics and Reporting\n\n[Data drives marketing](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/) decisions. A capable agency uses advanced tools to collect, interpret, and act on data to maximize ROI. \n\nBe sure they provide regular, actionable reports rather than just raw numbers. You won't get the insights needed to grow if they don’t explain the “why” behind your performance metrics.\n\n### Paid Advertising (PPC)\n\n[Paid ads are powerful](/news/understanding-pay-per-click-marketing/), but only when managed by a team that knows how to optimize for ROI. From keyword targeting to A/B testing, the best agencies continually refine campaigns for better performance. Verify their experience across multiple platforms like Google Ads, social media, etc., to ensure they’re versatile enough to handle your needs.\n\n### Local SEO\n\n[Search engine optimization](/news/seo-glance/) ensures your business is found when customers are searching. [Local SEO](/services/seo-services/), in particular, is critical for businesses with a regional focus. Ask about their process for keyword research, content optimization, and technical SEO. \n\nIf they can’t explain how they stay ahead of algorithm changes, they’re not worth your investment.\n\n### Video Production\n\nVideo is the most engaging form of content today, making it essential for campaigns and branding. A strong agency offers in-house production to deliver [high-quality videos](https://vimeo.com/alopexid) efficiently. Be wary of agencies that treat video as an afterthought — it’s a cornerstone of modern marketing.\n\n## Why Local Expertise Matters\n\nFor businesses in Alaska, working with a local agency offers distinct advantages. A team that understands Alaska’s unique business environment — like seasonal trends, regional challenges, and the nuances of remote communities — can create strategies that resonate with your audience in ways a generic agency can’t.\n\nAlopex Interaction Design brings both national-level expertise and local insight to the table. Every campaign we design is tailored to the market you serve. This balance allows us to deliver strategies that are not only impactful but also deeply relevant to your business.\n\n## Questions to Ask Your Marketing Agency\n\nWhen evaluating an agency, the right questions can uncover their true capabilities and alignment with your goals. These are the ones that matter most:\n\n**“How do you approach challenges unique to my industry?”**\n\nA good agency will demonstrate an understanding of your field and offer innovative, tailored solutions.\n\n**“What tools and technologies do you use to manage campaigns?”** \n\nThe best agencies invest in cutting-edge software and platforms to optimize their work.\n\n**“Can you share examples of recent successes with clients like me?”** \n\nReal results — whether in case studies, testimonials, or metrics — speak volumes about an agency’s ability to deliver.\n\n**“What is your long-term approach to building brand equity?”** \n\nLook for agencies that prioritize sustained growth and brand development over short-term wins.\n\nAsking these questions ensures you’re partnering with an agency that understands your needs and has the expertise and tools to exceed your expectations.\n\n## In the End, Go With Alopex\n\nFinding the right digital marketing agency means looking beyond the surface. It’s about identifying a team that brings both technical expertise and creative innovation to the table while aligning with your goals and values.\n\nAlopex Interaction Design offers more than marketing services. It’s about tomorrow, next month, and next year. To keep pace with your audience’s needs and the evolving digital landscape, your content needs to do more than fill gaps. It needs to grow with you. That’s where scalable content comes in.\n\n## Defining Scalable Content\n\nScalable content isn’t about producing more. It’s about creating smarter. \n\nThis type of content is designed to adapt, expand, and support your marketing needs over time. Instead of scrambling to create something new for every campaign, scalable content lets you build on what you already have.\n\nFor instance, a product explainer video doesn’t have to be a one-off asset. That same video can transform into blog posts, quick-hit social media clips, or even training materials. This flexibility makes scalable content essential for sustainable marketing, enabling businesses to stretch their resources further without sacrificing quality.\n\n## Why Scalable Content Matters\n\nScalable content allows you to work smarter and maximize the impact of your efforts. By building a strategy rooted in reusable and adaptable content, you can unlock three key advantages:\n\n### Maximizing ROI\n\nA single piece of content can drive results across multiple platforms, channels, and campaigns, making every investment count.\n\n### Saving Resources\n\nYou’re not constantly creating from scratch. Instead, you refine and expand on the assets you already have.\n\n### Future-Proofing Your Strategy\n\nTrends change, platforms shift, and new audiences emerge. Scalable content ensures your strategy stays relevant and impactful over time.\n\nFor example, a detailed guide for your audience can become a series of posts, a downloadable resource, or even the basis for a webinar — all while retaining its value.\n\n## Crafting Scalable Content\n\nIt can be a hard thing to wrap your head around. Here are a few ideas to get you started.\n\n### Start with Strong Foundations\n\nScalable content begins with cornerstone pieces. \n\nThese high-value, evergreen topics, such as how-to guides, comprehensive industry reports, and critical customer success stories, remain relevant over time. These foundational pieces act as a springboard for future campaigns.\n\n### Design for Repurposing\n\nTo scale content effectively, approach creation with adaptability in mind. Each piece should be versatile enough to live across multiple platforms or formats.\n\nA customer success story might start as a case study on your website. From there, it could evolve into a highlight reel for social media, an infographic for presentations, or even a feature in your email marketing. The goal isn’t to recreate the wheel. It’s to extend the life and value of the original content.\n\n### Invest in Quality\n\nEffective, scalable content isn’t about volume; it’s about value. A single, well-crafted piece can outlast and outperform dozens of rushed or low-effort pieces. \n\nPrioritizing quality ensures your content remains valuable and relevant, even as it expands into new forms.\n\n## Scale Smarter with Alopex\n\nScalable content is a game-changer for any business. Creating adaptable, high-quality assets saves time, amplifies your impact, and ensures your marketing efforts grow alongside your business. It’s not just efficient; it’s essential for long-term success.\n\nAt Alopex, we excel in creating scalable content that drives results. From crafting cornerstone pieces to building strategies that make your content work harder, we’re here to help. It’s a targeted, cost-effective way to reach potential customers, drive traffic, and achieve measurable results — whether you’re launching a new product or expanding your reach.\n\nWith PPC, businesses of all sizes can compete for attention, ensuring their message is seen by the right audience at the right time.\n\n## What is PPC Marketing?\n\nPay-per-click marketing is an advertising model where businesses pay a fee each time someone clicks their ad. These ads often appear at the top of search engine results or within social media feeds, offering premium visibility to businesses willing to bid for top placements.\n\nHere’s how it works:\n\nPlatforms like Google Ads and Facebook Ads operate on a bidding system. Advertisers select specific keywords, target demographics, or interest groups and set a maximum bid they’re willing to pay per click. When users search for a relevant term or meet the criteria, an automated auction determines which ads are displayed and in what order.\n\nThe goal is simple — connect with people who are already searching for what you offer. Whether it’s a local business promoting services or an e-commerce store driving sales, PPC gets your message directly in front of potential customers.\n\n### How Does PPC Marketing Work?\n\nEvery PPC platform uses an auction system to decide which ads appear and where. The auction is triggered whenever someone performs a search or action related to your chosen keywords or targeting criteria. Here’s what determines the outcome:\n\n#### Bid Amount\n\nYour maximum bid sets the upper limit of what you’re willing to pay per click. Higher bids can improve your chances, but they’re not the only factor.\n\n#### Quality Score\n\nSearch engines like Google assign a score based on your ad’s relevance, click-through potential, and the user experience of your landing page. A higher quality score can secure better ad placements at a lower cost.\n\n#### Ad Rank\n\nCombining your bid and quality score, Ad Rank decides whether your ad will appear and in which position.\n\nFor instance, an ad with a moderate bid but an excellent quality score may outrank a high-bid ad with poor relevance. This system rewards well-targeted, high-quality ads.\n\n## Targeting the Right Audience\n\nThe magic of PPC lies in its ability to zero in on your ideal customers. The tools for precision targeting make it possible to craft campaigns that resonate with specific groups.\n\n**Keywords** ensure your ads appear for relevant searches. Whether it’s a broad match like \"plumbing services\" or a specific phrase like \"emergency plumber near me,\" you can refine your approach.\n\n**Demographics** allow you to segment audiences by age, gender, income, and more, ensuring your message reaches the right people.\n\n**Location targeting** helps you focus on users within specific geographic areas, perfect for businesses that rely on local customers.\n\n**Interest-based targeting** works well for platforms like Facebook Ads, enabling you to show ads to people with relevant hobbies, purchasing behaviors, or life events.\n\nBy combining these tools, PPC campaigns become hyper-targeted, ensuring your budget is spent on users most likely to engage.\n\n### Measuring Results\n\nThe success of PPC lies in the data. Each campaign generates a wealth of metrics that give you insights into performance and guide your strategy. While there’s no one-size-fits-all way to measure success, here are some of the key indicators to monitor:\n\n#### Engaging Metrics\n\nClick-through rate (CTR) reveals how compelling your ad is to users. A high CTR shows your messaging is resonating.\n\n#### Cost Metrics\n\nCost per click (CPC) lets you understand the financial efficiency of your campaign, while total ad spend vs. revenue highlights profitability.\n\n#### Conversion Metrics\n\nWhether you’re tracking purchases, form submissions, or calls, conversion rate shows how effectively your campaign turns clicks into tangible results.\n\n#### Visibility Metrics\n\nImpression share helps you understand how much exposure your ad gets compared to competitors.\n\nEach of these metrics paints a piece of the bigger picture. By analyzing and comparing them, you can refine your targeting, adjust bids, or test new strategies for maximum ROI.\n\n## Why PPC Matters for Your Business\n\nPay-per-click marketing offers unique benefits that make it essential for businesses looking to grow quickly and efficiently. You get numerous benefits that other methods can’t match.\n\n### Immediate Visibility\n\nUnlike [SEO](/news/seo-glance/), which can take months to yield results, PPC delivers instant visibility. Ads appear at the top of search results or on social feeds as soon as your campaign goes live, immediately putting your business in front of potential customers.\n\n### Precision Targeting\n\nPPC allows you to focus on precisely the audience you want to reach. Whether you’re targeting specific keywords or tailoring ads to certain demographics, PPC ensures your budget is spent only on people most likely to convert.\n\n### Measurable ROI\n\nEvery aspect of a PPC campaign is trackable. From clicks to conversions, you’ll know exactly how your money is spent and which ads drive results. This transparency makes it easier to allocate your budget effectively and refine your strategy.\n\n### Flexibility to Scale\n\nWhether you’re starting small or managing an extensive campaign, PPC can scale with your business. You can adjust budgets, shift targeting, or pause ads in real time to meet your goals and react to market changes.\n\nFor example, imagine a small business targeting “local plumbing services.” Within hours of launching a PPC campaign, they see measurable increases in website visits and phone calls. The instant visibility and precise targeting help them connect directly with customers searching for their services.\n\n## Landing Pages Drive PPC Success\n\nPPC ads are only as effective as the [landing pages](/news/landing-pages/) they lead to. A great ad might grab attention, but a well-crafted landing page ensures that attention turns into action. The best landing pages reflect the ad’s message, provide a seamless user experience, and focus entirely on guiding visitors toward a single goal — making a purchase, filling out a form, or downloading a resource.\n\nThink of the landing page as the anchor for your campaign. Your ad budget goes to waste if it’s slow, cluttered, or off-message. A fast, focused, and visually appealing page makes sure every click counts.\n\n## Making the Most out of PPC Marketing\n\nTo make the most out of paid efforts, there are a few items to keep track of.\n\n### Thorough Keyword Research\n\nIdentify high-intent keywords that align with your business goals. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to uncover the most relevant opportunities.\n\n### A/B Testing\n\nTest variations of ad copy, images, and calls to action to find the most effective combination.\n\n### Optimized Landing Pages\n\nMake sure your landing pages are fast, mobile-friendly, and directly aligned with the ad’s promise. A great ad will only go so far if the page it leads to doesn’t deliver.\n\n### Monitor and Refine\n\nRegularly review performance metrics to understand what’s working and what’s not. Small adjustments, like refining targeting or tweaking headlines, can have a significant impact over time.\n\nPPC marketing thrives on data, so staying engaged with your campaigns is the key to success.\n\n## PPC is a Gateway to Growth\n\nPPC advertising is one of the most powerful tools in a marketer’s arsenal. With the ability to target specific audiences, generate instant visibility, and track ROI in real-time, it’s a strategy that delivers results when executed thoughtfully.\n\nAlopex how to turn PPC campaigns into growth engines for businesses. ","slug":"improve-your-website-seo","body":"![User searching for impactful SEO](/static/images/improve-seo-final.png \"Improve Your Website’s SEO in 10 Simple Steps\")\n\nYour website’s success hinges on visibility, and search engine optimization (SEO) is the key to getting noticed. While SEO might sound intimidating, you can make impactful improvements with some focused effort. Follow these 10 steps to help your website rank higher, attract more visitors, and lay a solid foundation in search results.\n\n## 1. Start with intent-driven keyword research\n\nThe backbone of SEO is understanding what your audience is searching for. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush to identify keywords that match your audience’s intent — whether they’re looking for information, services, or products.\n\nDon’t just focus on high-volume keywords. Long-tail keywords (phrases of three or more words) often have lower competition and attract highly motivated visitors.\n\n## 2. Craft strong meta tags and headlines\n\nYour page titles, meta descriptions, and headlines are what search engines and users see first. Craft them to be concise, compelling, and keyword-rich. Titles should clearly reflect the content of the page, while meta descriptions should act as an enticing summary.\n\nAvoid vague or repetitive phrases. These are opportunities to win the click and set expectations for what’s on your page.\n\n## 3. Prioritize mobile optimization\n\nSearch engines reward mobile-friendly websites because the majority of online traffic comes from mobile devices. A responsive design ensures your site is accessible and functional on any screen size, improving user experience and rankings.\n\nRun your site through Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test to identify and fix any issues with usability.\n\n## 4. Develop Content That Matches Search Intent\n\nContent is the cornerstone of SEO. Whether it’s blog posts, product descriptions, or FAQs, your content should align with the specific needs of your audience. \n\nSolve problems, answer questions, and provide value that competitors aren’t delivering.\n\nConsistently publishing fresh, high-quality content tells search engines your site is active and relevant.\n\n## 5. Enhance Site Speed and Performance\n\nPage load time is a critical ranking factor and a necessity for user experience. A slow website frustrates visitors and causes them to leave, signaling to search engines that your site isn’t worth ranking.\n\nCompress large images, use caching, and minimize unnecessary scripts to ensure fast load times.\n\n## 6. Optimize for Local SEO\n\nIf your business serves specific regions, optimizing for local SEO is essential. Claim and maintain your Google Business Profile with accurate information and high-quality images. Incorporate local keywords naturally into your content and metadata.\n\nEncouraging customer reviews also boosts your local credibility and visibility.\n\n## 7. Create a Logical Internal Linking Structure\n\nInternal links guide visitors through your site and help search engines understand your content hierarchy. Ensure each page links naturally to others, especially to cornerstone content that you want to rank highly.\n\nFor example, link service pages to relevant blog posts or resources, and vice versa, to create a cohesive user journey.\n\n## 8. Focus on Technical SEO\n\nThe technical foundation of your site is just as important as the content. Make sure your site has:\n\n* A clean and intuitive URL structure.\n* An SSL certificate (HTTPS) for security.\n* An XML sitemap to help search engines index your pages.\n\nThese behind-the-scenes elements significantly influence your site’s visibility and reliability.\n\n## 9. Regularly Audit and Update Content\n\nSEO is not a set-it-and-forget-it process. Content that performs well today may become outdated or less effective over time. Regularly audit your pages for outdated information, broken links, and changes in keyword trends.\n\nUpdating existing content often delivers quicker wins than creating entirely new material.\n\n## 10. Improve Accessibility and User Experience\n\nSearch engines reward websites that prioritize accessibility and usability. Optimize your site for keyboard navigation, use descriptive alt text for images, and ensure clear, legible font choices.\n\nMaking your site inclusive and easy to navigate improves rankings and caters to a broader audience.\n\n## SEO Success Takes Strategy and Consistency\n\nImproving your website’s SEO isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about making thoughtful, long-term changes that benefit users and search engines. By implementing these 10 steps, you can elevate your site’s performance and make a lasting impact on your business’s visibility.\n\nAlopex focuses on delivering actionable, results-driven SEO strategies. Without them, businesses are left relying on assumptions — an approach that rarely delivers results. Analytics give you the tools to measure success, identify areas for improvement, and adapt in real time, ensuring your strategies remain effective.\n\n## What are analytics?\n\nAt its core, analytics refers to collecting, measuring, and analyzing data to uncover patterns, trends, and actionable insights. In marketing, analytics is a critical tool that helps businesses understand what works, what doesn’t, and how to improve.\n\nHowever, it’s easy to fall into the trap of focusing on **vanity metrics** — data points that look impressive but lack substance. For instance, high follower counts or thousands of likes on social media may seem like victories, but they often don’t provide meaningful insights into your overall success. \n\nInstead, actionable insights are what genuinely matter: metrics tied to outcomes like conversions, customer retention, or ROI.\n\nTo make the most of analytics, you need to separate noise from value, focusing on data that drives meaningful decisions and aligns with your goals.\n\n## Key analytics metrics to track\n\nMetrics are the measurable data points that help you assess your marketing efforts. Focusing on the right metrics ensures your strategy is rooted in results rather than distractions. Here are some of the key categories to prioritize:\n\n### Website Metrics\n\nYour website is often the first point of contact for potential customers. Understanding how users interact with your site helps you identify areas for improvement, whether it’s optimizing navigation or fine-tuning your content.\n\nExamples of website metrics:\n\n* Traffic sources\n* Bounce rate\n* Session duration\n* Pages per session\n\n### Audience Engagement Metrics\n\nEngagement metrics reveal how well your content resonates with your audience, helping you adjust your approach to meet their needs better.\n\nExamples of audience engagement metrics:\n\n* Social media comments\n* Shares\n* Email click-through rates\n\n### Conversion Metrics\n\nThese metrics tie your marketing efforts directly to business goals, showing how effectively your campaigns turn interest into action.\n\nExamples of conversion metrics:\n\n* Form submissions\n* Phone calls\n* Completed purchases\n* Email sign-ups\n\n### Retention and Loyalty Metrics\n\nRetaining customers is more cost-effective than acquiring new ones. These metrics help you focus on building lasting relationships.\n\nExamples of retention and loyalty metrics:\n\n* Customer lifetime value (CLV)\n* Churn rate\n* Repeat purchase rates\n\n## How to apply analytics\n\nTo make the most of your analytics, it’s essential to use them proactively.\n\n### 1. Set Clear Goals\n\nEven the best data won’t lead to actionable insights without defined objectives. Use the SMART framework — specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound — to create goals that guide your efforts.\n\nAn example of a SMART goal would be to **increase email campaign conversions by 15% over three months.**\n\n### 2. Leverage Tools\n\nAnalytics platforms like Google Analytics, HubSpot, or SEMrush simplify data collection and visualization, making it easier to track performance across channels.\n\nThese tools can automate reporting and provide deeper insights into areas like audience behavior, traffic patterns, and campaign effectiveness.\n\n### 3. Test, Learn, Optimize\n\nUse your analytics to experiment with small adjustments, like A/B testing different versions of ad creative or [landing pages](/news/landing-pages/).\n\nLearn from the results to refine your campaigns, ALWAYS. That’s the secret to becoming a lean, mean marketing machine.\n\n### 4. Rinse and Repeat\n\nNow, do it all over again! And again…and again…and again...\n\n## Common Challenges with Analytics\n\nWhile this blog might make it sound simple, analytics are often mistifying and have red herrings all over the place.\n\n### Drowning in Data\n\nNot all metrics are worth tracking. Focus on the ones that align directly with your business goals to avoid being overwhelmed by unnecessary information.\n\n### Misunderstanding Attribution\n\nIt’s crucial to understand which channels contribute to conversions. For instance, a customer’s journey may start with a social media ad but end with an email purchase. Attribution models help you allocate resources to the right areas.\n\n### Ignoring Context\n\nData doesn’t exist in a vacuum.\n\nExternal factors like seasonal trends, economic shifts, or even weather conditions can influence metrics. Always interpret analytics with the bigger picture in mind.\n\n## Build smarter campaigns with analytics\n\nAnalytics are the backbone of successful marketing strategies. By focusing on the right metrics, setting clear goals, and using data to iterate and improve, you can maximize your marketing impact. Take control of your campaigns by embracing analytics and making informed decisions that drive results.\n\n## Partner with Alopex\n\nWe know the power of data-driven marketing. Clean code is the invisible backbone of an optimized site, influencing everything from load times to search engine rankings. Without it, even the best content can go unnoticed by both users and search engines.\n\n## Why Clean Code Matters\n\nClean code is about creating a foundation for long-term success. By focusing on simplicity, efficiency, and functionality, clean code ensures your website runs smoothly and delivers an exceptional user experience.\n\n## What is Clean Code?\n\nClean code refers to web development that’s streamlined, well-organized, and free of unnecessary clutter. It prioritizes functionality, efficiency, and simplicity, ensuring your website operates at peak performance.\n\nA website with clean code is faster, easier to maintain, and better equipped to meet user expectations. For SEO, it creates a technical foundation that supports every other element of your strategy.\n\n## How Clean Code Impacts SEO\n\nClean code ensures your website performs optimally, helping search engines rank it higher and users enjoy their experience.\n\n### Improved Page Speed\n\nSearch engines like Google prioritize fast-loading pages, making clean code vital. Streamlined HTML, CSS, and JavaScript minimize the time it takes for a page to render. Faster load times boost rankings and improve user experience, keeping visitors engaged longer.\n\nFor example, compressing images and removing unnecessary code can reduce load times by seconds, meaning the difference between a user staying or bouncing.\n\n### Enhanced Crawlability\n\nSearch engine bots rely on your website’s code to understand its structure and content. Clean code provides clear directions, making it easier for bots to crawl and index your pages. Proper use of semantic HTML and XML sitemaps ensures search engines can efficiently locate and rank your content.\n\n### Fewer Errors and Better Usability\n\nMessy code often leads to broken links, rendering issues, or poor compatibility across devices—all of which harm SEO. Clean code supports a seamless experience, ensuring your site functions correctly for every visitor.\n\n## What to Look for in Clean Code\n\nClean code doesn’t just happen. It requires intention and attention to detail. \n\n### Lightweight and Minified Code\n\nReducing file sizes through code minification and removing unused scripts keeps your website fast and lean. \n\nMinified CSS and JavaScript and compressed images eliminate unnecessary bloat, allowing your site to load quickly. This speed translates directly to better SEO rankings and a more enjoyable user experience.\n\n### Semantic HTML\n\nSemantic HTML tags, such as <header>, <article>, and <footer>, give search engines meaningful context about your content. Using these tags properly ensures that your website is easy to read and accessible to assistive technologies like screen readers.\n\nFor example, <h1> tags should only be used for main headings, while <alt> attributes for images provide critical context for both search engines and visually impaired users.\n\n### Logical Internal Linking\n\nA well-thought-out internal linking structure improves navigation for both users and search engines. Links should be relevant, use clear anchor text, and follow a logical hierarchy to guide visitors to important pages. \n\nThis approach also helps search engines crawl your site more efficiently, ensuring nothing important is overlooked.\n\n### Canonical Tags and Duplicate Content Management\n\nPoorly managed code can result in duplicate pages, which confuse search engines and dilute your ranking potential. Canonical tags help identify the primary version of a page, keeping your content organized and preventing penalization for duplicates.\n\n## Common Problems with Messy Code\n\nWhen unorganized or overloaded, code creates a cascade of issues that hurt your site’s performance and search engine visibility.\n\n### Clutter Slows You Down\n\nBloated code, like excessive inline styles or outdated scripts, can make your website sluggish and difficult to maintain. This affects load times and increases the risk of page errors and inconsistencies.\n\n### Missed Opportunities for Indexing\n\nMessy code often creates barriers for search engines, making it harder for bots to crawl and index your content. This can lead to entire sections of your site being ignored or misinterpreted, reducing your visibility in search results.\n\n### Unnecessary Redirect Chains\n\nExcessive or poorly implemented redirects create confusion for both users and search engines. Redirect chains slow down page load times and can negatively impact your SEO, especially if they lead to outdated or broken pages.\n\n## Clean Code is the Backbone of SEO\n\nClean code creates a ripple effect, improving your site’s speed, usability, and crawlability. It serves as the foundation for every other SEO effort, complementing quality content and strong backlinks to ensure your website performs at its best.\n\n## Build a Strong Foundation for SEO\n\nAlopex understands the difference clean code can make. It builds trust and drives action by guiding visitors toward a specific goal.","slug":"landing-pages","body":"![Alopex landing page art](/static/images/landing-pages-final.png \"Alopex Landing Pages\")\n\nYour landing page is your brand’s handshake. It sets the tone for who you are.\n\nA landing page is your chance to create a meaningful first impression. It builds trust and drives action by guiding visitors toward a specific goal. When done right, landing pages capture attention, communicate value, and convert visitors into customers.\n\n## First, What is a Landing Page?\n\nA landing page is a standalone, purpose-driven web page created to achieve a single objective. This objective can be as simple as capturing leads or driving purchases. Unlike a homepage, which serves as a broad introduction to your business, a landing page zeroes in on one specific audience and action.\n\nLet’s say you’re running a campaign to promote a new service. Your landing page won’t waste time explaining your company’s history or entire suite of services. Instead, it focuses entirely on encouraging sign-ups by showcasing the service’s benefits and leading visitors toward a call to action.\n\n## What Makes a Great Landing Page?\n\nLanding pages are confusing beasts. They can be rapidly deployed in the right environment or carefully crafted over a period of time. In the end, it's what it holds that matters most.\n\n### A Headline that Hooks\n\nThe headline is the first thing visitors see and needs to grab their attention immediately. A good headline doesn’t state facts — it sparks curiosity or offers value. It tells visitors why they should care, all in a matter of seconds.\n\nTake this example: “Achieve More with Less” or “Try Our Productivity Tool Today.” These headline is direct, benefits-driven, and expresses the audience’s desire for efficiency.\n\nA great headline is bold, clear, and aligned with the intent of your campaign. It sets the stage for the rest of the page.\n\n### Content That Speaks to the Audience\n\nEvery word on a landing page should aim to persuade visitors to take action. Your messaging should be concise yet impactful, breaking down what you’re offering and how it benefits the user.\n\nRather than overwhelming visitors with long paragraphs, use short, punchy sentences or bullet points to highlight key benefits. For instance, a landing page for software might feature content like this:\n\n* Save hours each week with automation tools.\n* Eliminate errors with intuitive workflows.\n* Scale your team’s productivity without extra effort.\n\n\n\nThis approach makes it easy for visitors to digest your offer quickly while keeping the focus on what they’ll gain.\n\n### A Call to Action That Leads\n\nThe call to action (CTA) is where all your landing page elements come together. A strong CTA doesn’t just ask visitors to do something — it gives them a reason to act now. Phrases like “Sign Up Today” or “Get Your Free Demo” work because they’re specific, action-oriented, and tied to an immediate benefit.\n\nPosition your CTA prominently on the page and repeat it strategically. For example, after explaining your value proposition, include a brightly colored button that says “Start Your Free Trial.” Reinforce the action by placing additional CTAs further down the page for users who need more context before deciding.\n\n### Trust Signals That Reassure\n\nBuilding trust is critical, especially if your landing page targets new audiences. By including elements like testimonials, certifications, or client logos, you provide reassurance that others have benefited from your product or service.\n\nA testimonial from a satisfied client could say, “This software cut our processing time in half. It’s an absolute game-changer for our team.” Paired with a professional headshot or company logo, it feels authentic and credible.\n\nTrust signals work best when integrated naturally into the page, reinforcing your authority without overshadowing the primary message.\n\n### A Design That Directs Attention\n\nGood design isn’t just about looking nice; it’s about guiding visitors’ eyes to the most important parts of the page. Use [color](/news/keeping-your-colors-consistent/), imagery, and layout to emphasize your headline, key points, and call to action.\n\nPlace your CTA above the fold and use contrasting colors to make it stand out. White space is your friend! It helps ensure the page doesn’t feel cluttered and allows your message to shine. Visual elements like arrows or directional imagery can further guide users toward the action you want them to take.\n\n## First Impressions Matter\n\nA landing page informs and persuades. It’s your opportunity to establish trust, convey your brand’s value, and create a seamless path toward action. When done right, it combines design, copywriting, and functionality into a single experience that resonates with visitors and drives results.\n\n## Common Mistakes on Landing Pages\n\n### 1. Trying to do too much\n\nA landing page should have one goal. Pages that mix too many messages or CTAs confuse visitors and reduce conversions. Stick to a single purpose, whether it’s collecting leads, encouraging downloads, or driving purchases.\n\n### 2. Disconnect between ads and landing pages\n\nTrust is broken if your ad promises one thing, but the landing page delivers something else. Ensure continuity between what visitors see in your ad and what they experience on the page.\n\n### 3. Overloading with links\n\nExternal links or multiple navigation options distract visitors from the intended action. Keep the focus on your primary goal by avoiding unnecessary links that pull users away from your CTA.\n\n## Always Test and Refine\n\nAn excellent landing page doesn’t happen overnight. Testing and refining are crucial to success. Tools like heatmaps or A/B testing can help you see what’s working and what needs improvement, whether it’s your headline, CTA placement, or layout. Over time, these adjustments can significantly boost your conversions.\n\n## Build Landing Pages That Convert\n\nYour landing pages should work as hard as you do. Whether these myths stem from outdated ideas or bad past experiences, they can hold you back from making informed decisions.\n\nLet’s separate fact from fiction.\n\n## Common Myths About Marketing\n\nHere are the most common myths about [marketing agencies](/news/how-marketing-agencies-save-you-money/)— and the truths that debunk them.\n\n### Myth #1 - Agencies Only Care About Big Clients\n\nMany small businesses worry they’ll be overlooked by agencies in favor of higher-paying, larger accounts. While this may be true for some firms, the right agency values businesses of all sizes and provides tailored strategies that match your goals.\n\nSmaller accounts often allow agencies to make a big impact, which is why boutique agencies like Alopex prioritize smaller businesses.\n\nAsk potential agencies how they balance their client mix and what systems they have in place to ensure every client gets personalized attention.\n\n### Myth #2 - Marketing Agencies Are Too Expensive for Small Businesses\n\nIt’s easy to assume that hiring an agency is out of reach for a small business budget, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Reputable agencies offer scalable services designed to fit your needs and resources.\n\nThink of working with an agency as an investment. They focus on driving ROI, which means the money you put into marketing can come back in the form of increased sales, improved visibility, and streamlined operations. \n\nThe key is to find an agency that’s transparent about pricing and delivers value proportional to your budget.\n\n### Myth #3 - Agencies Just Run Ads\n\nThe idea that agencies only focus on [running ads](/news/sem-at-a-glance/) is a common misconception. While ad management is a valuable part of marketing, agencies go far beyond this.\n\nA full-service agency works across multiple channels to create a cohesive strategy. From brand development and content creation to website optimization and analytics, agencies deliver a comprehensive approach designed to align with your business goals.\n\nIf you think running ads is all you need, you’re missing out on the bigger picture. A unified strategy ensures every aspect of your marketing efforts works together for maximum impact.\n\n### Myth #4 - You Can Do Everything an Agency Does\n\nSome businesses believe they can replicate the work of an agency by hiring an in-house team. While it’s possible to cover some marketing basics internally, most companies don’t have the bandwidth or resources to match the expertise of a full-service agency team.\n\nMarketing agencies bring specialists in areas like [SEO](/news/seo-glance/), graphic design, content creation, and [analytics](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/). They also leverage advanced tools and industry insights that in-house teams often need access to. Trying to replicate this internally can have higher costs, slower results, and stretched resources.\n\n### Myth #5 - Agencies Don’t Understand My Industry\n\nThis myth comes from the belief that niche businesses require highly specific marketing expertise that agencies can’t provide. In reality, a great agency’s strength lies in adaptability and research.\n\nAgencies dive deep into your business to understand your market, audience, and unique challenges. Their outsider perspective can often identify opportunities you may have missed. \n\nTo build trust, ask agencies for case studies or examples of how they’ve tackled similar challenges in other industries.\n\n## Where Do These Myths Come From?\n\nMany misconceptions stem from bad experiences with unreliable agencies that overpromise and underdeliver. Others arise from [DIY marketing](/news/hidden-costs-DIY-marketing/) advice that oversimplifies the complexity of running effective campaigns.\n\nMarketing is not a one-size-fits-all process, and not all agencies are created equal. By understanding these myths, you’ll be better equipped to find the right partner that matches your needs and values.\n\n## Partner With an Agency That Delivers\n\nMarketing agencies help you achieve your business goals. Should you prioritize building brand authority or drive quick, targeted results? The answer depends on your goals and timeline. Here’s how each approach can benefit your brand’s growth.\n\n## Build Long-Term Authority with Content Marketing\n\nContent marketing encompasses [SEO (Search Engine Optimization)](/news/seo-glance/) and content strategy, two complementary methods that create organic visibility and build a lasting brand presence. While SEO focuses on optimizing your website for search engine rankings, content strategy centers on planning, creating, and sharing valuable information that resonates with your audience. Together, these approaches attract, educate, and build trust over time.\n\n### What is SEO?\n\nSEO involves fine-tuning your website to climb higher in search engine results. This visibility attracts unpaid, organic traffic thanks to strategies like keyword research, on-page optimization, technical SEO, and link-building. Over time, these methods increase your site’s authority, appealing to visitors and search engines.\n\n### What is Content Strategy?\n\nContent strategy, on the other hand, is about planning, creating, and sharing valuable content that resonates with your audience. From blog posts to videos, well-crafted content doesn’t just inform—it strengthens your brand’s reputation and builds trust.\n\n## How Content Marketing Drives Long-Term Results\n\n1. **Authority**\n\n   High-quality, keyword-optimized content positions your brand as a trusted resource, earning industry authority.\n2. **Sustained Growth**\n\n   While SEO and content require a time investment, they ultimately generate consistent organic traffic, fueling long-term growth.\n3. **Cost-Effective Over Time**\n\n   Unlike [paid ads](/news/understanding-pay-per-click-marketing/), where costs accumulate, strong SEO and content strategies require less ongoing investment once your foundation is set.\n\nStill, one major challenge of SEO and content is the time required. Depending on your industry, it can take months to see the full impact, which may feel slow for businesses looking for immediate results.\n\n## Drive Conversions Quickly with Paid Advertising\n\nIf content marketing plays the long game, paid advertising is a quick win. Paid ads bring in traffic fast, with measurable returns that suit brands needing immediate engagement.\n\nPaid advertising includes tools like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and display ads, where you pay for prominent visibility. This investment puts your brand right in front of your target audience, whether through search engine results, social media feeds, or banner placements on relevant websites.\n\n### What Makes Paid Advertising Effective\n\nPaid ads deliver results fast, providing a solid return on investment if you’re running short-term campaigns, product launches, or seasonal promotions. Plus, these campaigns offer high precision in targeting — you can reach specific demographics, interests, and behaviors, ensuring your ads connect with the right audience.\n\nAdditionally, every click, conversion, and [dollar spent in paid ads](/news/sem-at-a-glance/) is trackable, which allows for real-time adjustments. If something isn’t working, you can quickly pivot and improve performance.\n\nThe downside? When the ad budget runs out, so does the traffic. Unlike SEO, where organic growth continues, paid ads bring short-lived traffic bursts. And in competitive markets, paid campaigns can become costly quickly.\n\n## How Content Marketing and Paid Advertising Work Together\n\nAlthough SEO and paid advertising serve different purposes, they’re actually most effective when used together. Paid advertising can help boost your brand’s visibility while your SEO and content strategies are still building momentum. Combining the two allows for immediate conversions while setting up a foundation for sustained growth.\n\n### Retargeting Campaigns\n\nWith retargeting, content created for SEO — like blogs and videos — can be repurposed to draw users back into your sales funnel. For instance, visitors who found you through organic search and didn’t convert can be targeted with ads later, increasing the chances of conversion.\n\n### Data-Driven Content Optimization\n\n[Insights from paid campaigns](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/) can help refine your SEO and content approach. For example, if certain keywords or demographics drive high conversion rates in paid ads, you can create more targeted content to boost organic performance.\n\n## Choose the Strategy that Matches Your Goals\n\nThe right path depends on your brand’s goals and resources. Content marketing is ideal if your focus is on building trust, authority, and long-term growth. Paid advertising, on the other hand, is best suited for driving quick traffic and conversions, especially for time-sensitive promotions.\n\nThe true power comes from a balanced approach. You can leverage both short-term and long-term growth by running paid ads for immediate visibility and building a strong foundation with SEO and content. \n\nFor a customized strategy that brings the best of both worlds, [reach out to Alopex today](/contact/). ","slug":"zero-click-searches","body":"![Futuristic looking computer mice representing zero-click searches](/images/zero-clicks.png \"Zero-Click Searches\")\n\nEverything is moving toward typing a question into Google and getting your answer instantly — no clicks, no scrolling, no further effort. That’s the essence of a zero-click search, and it’s reshaping the way we think about online visibility. \n\nFor businesses and marketers, it’s both an opportunity and a challenge: how do you succeed when your audience might never leave the search results page?\n\n## What Are Zero-Click Searches?\n\nZero-click searches occur when a search engine delivers the answer to a query directly on the search results page (SERP), eliminating the need for users to click on a website link. These searches often appear as AI-generated summaries, featured snippets, knowledge panels, or local packs. They offer incredible convenience to users but come at a cost to websites vying for attention.\n\n### AI Summaries and the Battle for Space\n\nOne of the biggest challenges zero-click searches present is the rise of AI-generated summaries. These tools extract and condense content from various sources, often reducing the incentive for users to visit the originating site. \n\nFor marketers, this means that your website might not receive traffic even when your content is referenced.\n\nAdd to this the prominence of other SERP features like “People Also Searched,” video carousels, and local results. These elements dominate the screen, pushing organic links further down the page — or out of sight entirely. The shrinking on-screen real estate forces businesses to compete not just for clicks but for visibility itself.\n\n## The Good, the Bad, and the Clickless\n\nFor businesses, zero-click searches aren’t inherently negative. They’re a double-edged sword. \n\nOn the one hand, appearing in a featured snippet or local pack can boost brand recognition and trust. Users see your business as an authoritative source, even if they don’t click through to your site. \n\nOn the other hand, fewer clicks mean reduced opportunities to convert users through your website’s content.\n\n### Balancing Visibility and Clicks\n\nThe key is understanding how to measure success differently. While traffic and conversions are still important, businesses must also prioritize metrics like SERP visibility, brand impressions, and local search engagement. \n\nThis shift requires redefining [SEO](/news/seo-glance/) strategies to focus on dominating SERP features rather than solely chasing clicks.\n\n## How to Win the Zero-Click Game\n\nZero-click optimization is about ensuring your content aligns with the way users interact with search engines. Success depends on creating valuable, well-structured content and leveraging tools to increase your chances of appearing in SERP features.\n\n### Optimize for Featured Snippets and AI Summaries\n\nCraft concise answers to frequently searched questions and format your content for easy readability. Structured data, such as schema markup, is essential to signal to search engines what your content offers.\n\n### Dominate Local Search\n\nAn up-to-date Google Business Profile is crucial for businesses with a physical presence. It promises control, affordability, and easy access to tools that claim to simplify the process. But when businesses dive in, they often discover that what seems cost-effective on the surface hides a multitude of unseen expenses.\n\nIs DIY marketing really the bargain it seems?\n\n## The Invisible Time Sink\n\nMarketing isn’t something you master overnight. When businesses take the DIY route, time becomes their most significant expense. While the upfront costs of professional marketing may seem intimidating, the time spent on DIY efforts can end up costing even more in the long run.\n\n### The Learning Curve\n\nTools and platforms like Google Ads, social media schedulers, and analytics dashboards require time to learn — and even longer to use effectively. \n\nFor example, mastering keyword research for [SEO](/news/seo-glance/) or understanding how to create an effective ad campaign involves trial and error, which delays results. Every hour spent learning these systems is an hour taken away from managing your business.\n\n### Execution and Burnout\n\nEven with basic knowledge, executing a strategy is time-intensive. Writing blog posts, creating graphics, scheduling social media posts, and [analyzing campaign performance](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/) can quickly become overwhelming. \n\nTrying to do it all yourself often leads to burnout, leaving your marketing efforts inconsistent or incomplete.\n\n### Lost Opportunities\n\nWhile you’re dedicating hours to DIY marketing, you could be focusing on core business tasks, like improving products, building client relationships, or managing operations. This lost focus on your expertise can cost you more in potential revenue than hiring an expert would.\n\nThink about it this way: Would you try to learn accounting from scratch just to do your own taxes?\n\nMost people hire a professional because their time is better spent on their core strengths. Marketing is no different; it requires time and expertise to do it right.\n\n## Wasted Money on Poorly Executed Ad Campaigns\n\nAdvertising platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads are powerful but easy to misuse without the proper knowledge. Many DIY marketers waste money due to mistakes like:\n\n* **Targeting the Wrong Audience**\n\n  Without a deep understanding of audience segmentation, businesses often run ads that miss their ideal customers, resulting in clicks that don’t convert.\n* **Poorly Designed Campaigns**\n\n  Weak ad copy, unattractive visuals, or unclear calls-to-action can make even a well-targeted ad fail.\n* **Ineffective Landing Pages**\n\n  Driving traffic to a generic homepage instead of a well-optimized [landing page](/news/landing-pages/) with a clear purpose leads to high bounce rates and wasted [ad spend](/news/sem-at-a-glance/).\n\nFor example, imagine a small business spending $500 on an ad campaign that directs users to a confusing landing page with no clear next step. That $500 is essentially lost because the campaign wasn’t structured to convert visitors into leads or sales.\n\nProfessional agencies understand how to align ad campaigns with effective landing pages, ensuring every dollar spent moves your audience closer to taking action.\n\n## The True Cost of Tools\n\nDIY marketing often relies on the promise of tools that make everything “easy.” But there’s a catch: those tools come with a price tag and are only as effective as the person using them.\n\n### Recurring Costs\n\nProfessional marketing requires multiple tools to be effective. Subscriptions for SEO software, email marketing platforms, graphic design apps, and social media schedulers may start small but quickly add up.\n\n* SEO tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs can cost hundreds of dollars per month.\n* Advanced graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud can add another recurring expense.\n* Analytics platforms with premium features can carry hidden costs.\n\n### Using Tools Effectively\n\nSimply owning professional-grade tools doesn’t guarantee success. Without expertise, you may miss key features or fail to maximize their potential. \n\nThis is common with ad platforms like Google Ads, where small mistakes in audience targeting or bidding strategies can waste your budget without generating results.\n\n### Redundant Spending\n\nMany businesses sign up for tools they think they need, only to realize later that those tools overlap in functionality or don’t meet their specific needs. An agency typically provides access to these tools as part of their service, sparing you from unnecessary expenses and ensuring they’re used effectively.\n\nAgencies often package these tools into their services, combining them with expertise that amplifies their value. This saves time and money while ensuring your marketing strategy is on point.\n\n## The Brand Damage You Don’t See\n\nYour marketing efforts are often your audience's first impression of your business. Poorly executed DIY marketing can have lasting consequences you may not recognize immediately.\n\n### Inconsistent Messaging\n\nYour messaging can feel scattered without a clear strategy or cohesive brand voice. This confuses potential customers, making it harder for them to understand your business’s value.\n\n### Amateur Design and Content\n\nPoorly designed graphics, unpolished copy, or mismatched visuals can harm your credibility. Customers may subconsciously associate low-quality marketing with a lack of professionalism.\n\n### Missed Trends or Opportunities\n\nMarketing evolves quickly, and staying on top of trends requires constant learning. \n\nDIY marketers often rely on outdated tactics, like keyword stuffing or overly broad targeting, which fail to resonate with today’s audiences.\n\nImagine a business launching a DIY ad campaign with inconsistent visuals, generic language, and no clear call to action. Even if the product is great, the ad creates a negative impression that’s difficult to undo. Professional marketers know how to align visuals, copy, and strategy for maximum impact.\n\n## Is DIY Marketing Really Cheaper?\n\nThe hidden costs of DIY marketing — from lost time and wasted ad spend to ineffective tools and brand damage — often outweigh its perceived affordability. While it may seem like you’re saving money in the short term, the long-term costs can add up, leaving your business struggling to compete.\n\nAlopex focuses on delivering creative, results-driven strategies tailored to your business’s unique needs. ","slug":"what-is-omnichannel-marketing","body":"![A cute graphic representing omnichannel marketing](/images/omnichannel-final.png \"Omnichannel Marketing\")\n\nReaching customers through multiple channels is a necessity. It’s not enough to be present on different platforms; businesses must create seamless and consistent experiences across all touchpoints. This is where omnichannel marketing comes in.\n\n**Omnichannel marketing** is a strategy that integrates all of a business’s marketing channels to provide a cohesive customer experience. Unlike [multichannel marketing](/news/what-is-multichannel-marketing/), where channels operate in silos, omnichannel marketing ensures that whether a customer interacts with [your brand](/news/brand-what-why-does-it-matter/) online, in-store, or through any other medium, they receive a consistent and personalized experience.\n\n## Understanding Omnichannel Marketing\n\nOmnichannel marketing is all about creating a unified customer journey that connects every interaction a customer has with your brand. To reiterate, this goes beyond being present on multiple platforms — it’s about making all those platforms work together seamlessly.\n\nWhat sets omnichannel marketing apart is its focus on the customer’s experience. While multichannel marketing might involve a brand using several channels independently, omnichannel marketing integrates these channels. \n\nFor example, a customer might start browsing your services on their mobile device, continue surfing on a desktop, and then visit your brick-and-mortar location to solicit those services. After the services are complete, they might come across your brand on their favorite social media platform through remarketing ads or by following your page. For omnichannel marketing to work, all of this needs to happen while having a consistent and tailored experience.\n\n## Why Omnichannel Marketing Matters\n\nThe rise of omnichannel marketing is primarily driven by evolving customer expectations. Today’s consumers expect a seamless experience across all interactions with a brand, regardless of the platform. They want to move effortlessly from social media to an online store to a physical location without any disruption along the way.\n\n### Enhanced Customer Experience\n\nOmnichannel marketing delivers a more cohesive and personalized customer experience by unifying all marketing efforts. This approach makes every interaction with a customer feel connected and relevant, no matter where it takes place.\n\n#### Look at Starbucks\n\nConsider how Starbucks has successfully implemented omnichannel marketing. Their mobile app allows customers to order and pay for their coffee in advance, earn rewards, and receive personalized offers — all of which are seamlessly integrated with their in-store experience through displays and products. \n\nThe consistent experience across channels has strengthened customer loyalty and enhanced the overall brand experience. *Hence, they can charge so much for a cup of coffee.*\n\n### Customer Expectations\n\nWith the increasing demand for convenience and personalization, businesses that fail to adopt an omnichannel strategy risk falling behind. Customers now expect brands to remember their preferences, provide relevant offers, and make their experience as smooth as possible, no matter where or what device they use.\n\n## Building an Omnichannel Strategy\n\nCreating an effective omnichannel strategy requires a thoughtful approach that considers your customers’ entire journey. Here’s a rough approach to building a successful strategy:\n\n1. **Map the Customer Journey**\n\n   Start by understanding the different touchpoints where customers interact with your brand. This includes online channels like your website and social media, and offline experiences like in-store visits and mailers. Mapping out the entire customer journey allows you to identify opportunities to create that seamless experience.\n2. **Integrate Your Marketing Channels**\n\n   Once you have a clear picture of the customer journey, work on integrating all your marketing channels. Make sure your website, social media, email marketing, in-store experience, and even customer service are aligned and provide a cohesive experience. The goal is to make every touchpoint feel like a natural continuation of the previous.\n3. **Leverage Data for Personalization**\n\n   [Use customer data](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/) to personalize the experience across all channels. This involves collecting data from various touchpoints and using it to customize your marketing efforts. Personalized product recommendations, targeted promotions, and customized communication can significantly enhance your customer experience.\n4. **Keep Your Brand Consistent**\n\n   As you get by now, [consistency is key](/news/brand-guides/) in omnichannel marketing. Make sure your branding and messaging are uniform across all channels and platforms. Whether a customer engages with your brand online or in-person, the experience should reinforce your brand identity and build trust.\n5. **Monitor and Optimize Performance**\n\n   Finally, you need to monitor the performance of your omnichannel strategy continuously. Use analytics to track customer behavior and engagement, and be prepared to make adjustments as needed. Optimization is an ongoing process that keeps your strategy effective and responsive to complex customer needs.\n\n## The Challenges of Omnichannel Marketing\n\nImplementing an omnichannel marketing strategy has incredible benefits but still has its hurdles. To make leaps and bounds to take home the omnichannel gold, let’s eye up those hurdles so you can make the right approach.\n\n### Complexity of Integration\n\nBringing multiple channels together is no small feat. It requires advanced knowledge of analytic platforms and an aerial view of each aspect of your business. The more channels you add, the more complex the integration becomes. Develop a well-thought-out strategy in advance to keep everything aligned.\n\nStart by identifying the most critical touchpoints in your customer journey and focus on integrating these first. Prioritize channels that have the most significant impact on your customer experience and expand from there. Get everyone on your team on the same page to work toward this common goal.\n\n### Data Management and Integration\n\nTo deliver a personalized and consistent experience, you need to manage and integrate data from various sources. This can be daunting since it involves collecting, storing, and analyzing data from all over.\n\nInvest in data management systems that can handle sorting omnichannel data. Make sure these systems can integrate data from all your channels and provide real-time insights. Regularly audit your data to ensure accuracy since this will directly impact the quality of your customer interactions.\n\n### Maintaining Consistent Management\n\nMaintaining consistent messaging and branding becomes increasingly challenging as you engage with customers across different channels. It’s a lot to keep track of. Inconsistent messaging can lead to confusion, weaken your brand’s impact, and erode customer loyalty.\n\nDevelop clear [brand guidelines](/news/brand-guides/) that outline your messaging, tone, and visual identity. Train everyone involved in your marketing efforts to adhere to these guidelines. Regularly review your assets and copy across channels to check for consistency and adjust as needed.\n\n## Omnichannel Marketing is Important\n\nOmnichannel marketing is more than a buzzword; it’s a vital strategy for businesses looking to thrive in our fast-paced and competitive landscape. By providing a seamless and personalized experience across all channels, omnichannel marketing helps businesses meet evolving customer expectations and build stronger, more loyal relationships.\n\n**Want help activating an omnichannel marketing strategy?** Our team at Alopex is passionate about helping businesses create seamless, impactful experiences that resonate across all channels. Your audience tunes out, engagement drops and the dreaded ad fatigue sets in. But what exactly is ad fatigue?","slug":"avoiding-ad-fatigue","body":"![avoiding ad fatigue](/images/ad-fatigue-final.png \"How to Avoid Ad Fatigue\")\n\nIn the fast-paced world of digital marketing, running the same ads over and over can lead to diminishing returns. Your audience tunes out, engagement drops and the dreaded ad fatigue sets in. But what exactly is ad fatigue?\n\n## What is ad fatigue?\n\nAd fatigue occurs when your target audience becomes overly exposed to the same advertisements. This leads to a gradual decrease in engagement with the ads. In other words, people have seen your ad so often that it loses impact, resulting in poorer performance. Ad fatigue can happen to even the most well-crafted campaigns if they aren’t monitored and refreshed regularly.\n\nTo keep your marketing fresh and your audience engaged, it’s essential to understand how to spot the signs of ad fatigue and implement strategies to prevent it.\n\n## Recognizing the Signs of Ad Fatigue\n\nAd fatigue can manifest in several ways, and identifying these signs early is vital to reaching your marketing goals. Here’s what you need to watch out for:\n\n### Declining Click-Through Rates (CTR)\n\nA drop in CTR is a signal of your audience losing interest in your ads. As the novelty of your creative wears off, fewer people are inclined to click. Don’t forget! CTR is one of the most important metrics when measuring the effectiveness of an ad group.\n\n### Lower Engagement\n\n[Engagement metrics](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/), including likes, shares, and comments, can also decline when ad fatigue sets in — yes, even social media ads are subject to ad fatigue. This decrease in interaction suggests that your audience is no longer compelled by your message.\n\n### Reduced Conversion Rates\n\nEven if people still click on your ads, a drop in conversions tells you they’re not taking action. Compounding with declining click-through rates, this can be a clear sign that your ads no longer resonate with your audience.\n\n### Increasing Cost Per Click (CPC)\n\nWhen your ads lose relevance, platforms like Google Ads will start charging more for each click, indicating that your ad is less effective than it was.\n\nRecognizing these signs allows you to adjust your strategy before your campaign performance declines any further!\n\n## Refresh Your Creative\n\nTo combat ad fatigue, regularly refreshing your creative assets is essential. This involves more than the graphic; it means updating visuals, headlines, and calls to action (CTA) to keep your content engaging. So, how often should you refresh your creative?\n\n### How often should you refresh your ads?\n\nRefreshing ads depend on various factors, like your target audience, platform, and budget. A general rule of thumb for Alaskan business is refreshing creative every 4-6 weeks. This frequency will make sure your ads remain fresh and appealing, preventing your audience from becoming too familiar with your content. Regular updates can also help you test new ideas and discover what resonates best with your audience.\n\n## Segment Your Audience\n\nSegmentation plays a critical role in delivering relevant and engaging ads, ultimately reducing the risk of ad fatigue. You can alter your message by dividing your audience into more specific groups to meet their needs better.\n\n### Demographic Segmentation\n\nCustomize your ads based on age, gender, income, and other factors. This allows you to create content that speaks directly to the needs and interests of each group.\n\n### Behavioral Segmentation\n\nSegment your audience based on their behavior, like past purchases, browsing habits, or engagement with previous ads. This enables you to create highly targeted ads that resonate more deeply.\n\n### Psychographic Segmentation\n\nGo beyond demographics and behaviors by considering your audience’s values, interests, and lifestyles. This deeper understanding can lead to more personalized and compelling ads.\n\nProperly segmenting your audience can create more relevant marketing experiences that maintain audience interest and combat ad fatigue.\n\n## Use Frequency Capping\n\nFrequency capping is a technique that limits how often your ads are shown to the same user within a specific period. By setting appropriate frequency caps, you can prevent overexposure and the gradual creep of ad fatigue. Finding the right balance is difficult — your audience needs to see your ad enough to remember it, but not so often that they become annoyed or ignore it altogether.\n\nIn addition to preventing ad fatigue, frequency capping can improve your ad’s overall efficiency. By controlling the number of times each user sees the ad, you can allocate your budget more effectively, ensuring that your ads reach a broader audience without overexposing any single segment.\n\n## Experiment with New Formats\n\nDiversifying your ad formats can breathe new life into your campaigns. Rather than sticking to just one type of ad, consider incorporating different formats like video ads, carousel ads, or interactive content. Video ads, for example, are highly engaging and can convey your message quickly and effectively through storytelling and visuals.\n\nCarousel ads, for example, allow you to showcase multiple products, services, or stories in a single ad unit. This encourages more interaction from your audience. The carousel ad format is handy for e-commerce businesses or brands with a diverse product range since it allows for a more comprehensive presentation of what your business offers.\n\nExperimenting with these different formats keeps your campaigns fresh and provides insights into what resonates most with your audience. By regularly introducing new formats, you can maintain interest and engagement to make sure your marketing continues to perform over time.\n\n## Avoid Ad Fatigue\n\nAd fatigue is a common challenge in digital marketing. With the right strategies, it’s entirely avoidable. Recognize the signs early, refresh your creative regularly, segment your audience, leverage frequency capping, and experiment with new formats to keep your marketing campaigns performing at their best. Stay proactive and adaptable to keep resonating with your audience and drive results. Consistent monitoring and thoughtful adjustments can turn ad fatigue from a looming threat into a manageable part of your marketing strategy.\n\n**Feeling like your ads are losing their spark?** We’re experts at breathing life into tired marketing strategies. ","slug":"what-is-multichannel-marketing","body":"![multichannel marketing](/images/multichannel-final.png \"What is Multichannel Marketing\")\n\nMultichannel marketing is a strategy that leverages multiple channels to connect with customers. Unlike single-channel approaches, where a business might rely solely on one platform (like social media or a website), multichannel marketing aims to have your brand present wherever your customers are. \n\nThe goal is to provide multiple avenues for customer engagement, giving them the flexibility to interact with your brand on their preferred channels.\n\n## Different from Omnichannel Marketing\n\nIt’s essential to note multichannel marketing is often confused with [omnichannel marketing](/news/what-is-omnichannel-marketing/). While both involve engaging customers across multiple platforms, they differ in execution and customer experience.\n\nMultichannel marketing uses each channel independently to reach customers. In contrast, omnichannel marketing integrates these channels to create a seamless and cohesive experience across all touchpoints: *a slight difference but an impactful one*.\n\n## Understanding Multichannel Marketing\n\nAt its core, multichannel marketing is about being present across different platforms. This could include a mix of online and offline channels — like social media, email, direct mail, digital ads, streaming platforms, and in-store experiences. Each of these channels would operate independently to reach your audience.\n\nWhat distinguishes multichannel marketing is its focus on using each channel separately. For example, while one customer might discover your brand through an Instagram ad, another might find you through content on YouTube, and another might interact with a digital ad while procrastinating at work.\n\nEven within social media, multichannel marketing considers the unique experiences offered by different platforms. How users interact with content on Instagram differs from how they interact with LinkedIn or TikTok. A successful multichannel strategy recognizes these differences and configures the content to fit the platform and audience segment.\n\n## Why Multichannel Marketing is Important\n\nMultichannel marketing is a crucial part of a modern marketing strategy. In a fragmented media landscape, consumers are not confined to a single platform. They move between social media platforms, websites, apps, and everything in between. To stay relevant, your brand must be wherever your customers are to engage them at every touchpoint.\n\n**Note:** This doesn’t mean you need to be on every platform! You need to identify which platforms your target audience uses and meet them there.\n\nMultichannel marketing is important because it broadens your reach and caters to diverse customer preferences.\n\n### Broader Reach\n\nBy being present on multiple platforms, multichannel marketing allows businesses to reach a wider audience. Different customers have different habits. Some prefer browsing on social media, others despise social media and can be reached with email marketing, and others still appreciate direct mail. \n\nMultichannel marketing makes sure your brand is present in all of these places to maximize your potential audience.\n\n### Customer Choice\n\nToday’s consumers expect to interact with brands on their terms. Multichannel marketing gives them the freedom to choose how and where they engage with your business. Whether they discover your brand on Facebook, find you in person, or visit your website, the choice is in their hands.\n\n### Increased Touchpoints\n\nThe more touchpoints a customer has with your brand, the more opportunities you have to build awareness and foster engagement. Each channel serves as a point of contact, reinforcing your brand’s presence and keeping your business top of mind. This can lead to higher conversion rates as customers move through their journey.\n\n## Building a Multichannel Marketing Strategy\n\nCreating a successful multichannel marketing strategy involves more than just being present on multiple platforms. Here’s how you can get started with a multichannel strategy:\n\n### Identify Appropriate Channels\n\nThe first step in developing a multichannel strategy is identifying the platforms where your audience spends the most time. This requires a strong understanding of your customer demographics and behaviors. Are they more active on social media? (Hint: Everyone should answer yes to this one.) Are they open to newsletters? Do they stop by an in-store location often?\n\nPopular channels include:\n\n* Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.\n* Community platforms like Nextdoor and Discord\n* Traditional channels like direct mail and in-store displays\n\n### Consistent Messaging\n\nWhile each channel in a multichannel strategy operates independently, it’s important to maintain consistent messaging across all platforms. This is getting confusing, I know. This consistency helps reinforce your brand identity and makes your core message clear, no matter where the customer encounters it. For example, a promotional campaign might have different creatives for social media, email, and in-store displays, but the underlying message should remain the same.\n\n### Measuring Performance\n\nIt’s essential to track and analyze the performance of each channel. You need to [set up metrics](/news/how-to-use-marketing-analytics/) to measure success, like click-through rates for email, engagement on social media, foot traffic from direct mail campaigns, or QR code scans from printed material. By monitoring these metrics, you can identify the most effective channels and adjust your strategy accordingly.\n\n## Challenges of Multichannel Marketing\n\nMultichannel marketing is standard but still carries its fair share of challenges. Here are some of the ones you’re guaranteed to run into:\n\n### Resource Allocation\n\nManaging multiple channels requires a significant investment of time and resources. It can be challenging to allocate these resources effectively, especially for smaller businesses with limited budgets. Properly managing and optimizing channels can stretch your team thin — or never happen — if not carefully planned. Mistakes in resource allocation can cause overspending in less effective areas, further straining your budget.\n\n### Data Silos\n\nAnother challenge is the potential for data to become siloed within each channel. Without proper integration, seeing a unified view of your customers’ behavior across the different platforms can be challenging. This can lead to missed opportunities for personalization and a lack of cohesive insights into your overall marketing performance.\n\nThe solution to this challenge lies in integrating your data systems, allowing for better communication between channels and a more holistic view of your customer’s journey. Using tools like customer data platforms (CDPs) can help unify our data, providing the insights needed to refine your strategy and continue enhancing your customer experience.\n\n### Inconsistent Messaging\n\nSince each channel operates independently, inconsistent messaging across platforms is risky. While the messages might be authored for each channel, they should still align with your overall brand strategy. These inconsistencies can confuse customers and dilute your brand’s impact without careful management.\n\n## Multichannel Marketing is Powerful\n\nMultichannel marketing is a powerful strategy for businesses looking to broaden their reach and engage with customers on multiple fronts. Deciding which marketing strategies are best for your business depends on your specific goals, audience, and resources. Each situation is unique, and a tailored approach will help you succeed.\n\n**Ready to meet your customers where they are?** Multichannel marketing can open up new avenues for engagement, but it takes the right strategy to make it work. Between social media, website content, campaign management, and everything in between, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. While some businesses can manage marketing in-house, there are critical moments when hiring a marketing agency can make a massive difference. So when does it make sense to bring in the pros?\n\n## When You’re Ready to Scale Your Business\n\nAs your business grows, so do your marketing needs. \n\nScaling your business requires a strategic approach to make sure every marketing effort is effective and aligned with your business goals. This is where a marketing agency can step in. With specialized teams and a wealth of experience, an agency can help you navigate every complexity and identify the marketing tools your business needs.\n\nLet’s say your business is seeing a steady increase in revenue, but your marketing team is struggling to keep up with the demand. A marketing agency can provide the extra muscle and expertise needed to manage this growth effectively, from developing scalable strategies to implementing campaigns that drive results.\n\n## When You Lack Specialized Skills\n\nDigital marketing is a broad field, encompassing everything from [SEO](/news/seo-glance/) and [PPC](/news/understanding-pay-per-click-marketing/) to content strategy and social media management. If your lead generation has plateaued, an agency will suggest experimenting with new content formats like direct mail, display ads, or short-form video advertising to re-energize your audience and drive more engagement.\n\n## When You’re Entering a New Market\n\nLaunching a new product or entering a new market is a big undertaking. ","slug":"what-is-typography","body":"\n\n![what is typography](/images/typography-final.png \"What is Typography?\")\n\nPredominantly discussed in design, typography refers to the styling of words for use in print, display, or general distribution. Typography is integral to creating legible, digestible, and overall appealing communication in graphic and UI design. No matter the medium, solid typography establishes a visual hierarchy that influences the tone and overall graphic balance. This isn’t to say that typography is more important than the actual graphic design, more so that bad typography can make good design look substandard.\n\nWhether you’ve heard the term before or are just now seeing it for the first time, typography is something that anyone should be familiar with. Many assume it just means playing with font, color, and text size. While typography includes these elements, many more moving parts and pieces make typography the art form it is.\n\nTypography is crucial to understand, if even just at a fundamental level.\n\n## Elements of Typography\n\nWith typography heavily influencing how people perceive your messaging, it is a crucial component to understand within your brand and brand messaging. In light of that, here are the main elements that will help you avoid stunting your brand.\n\n### Typefaces and Fonts\n\nThese are what quite literally drive the idea of typography, though they’re often confused or treated as synonymous. To keep everything straight, it’s best to think of them as families. Typefaces are the entire family of fonts; fonts are the family members. For example, the term ‘Arial’ is the typeface (font family), but terms like ‘Regular’ and ‘Bold’ refer to the actual fonts (the fonts in the font family).\n\n### Point Size\n\nIn typography, point size is simply a unit of measurement. Most primarily associate point size solely with the size of the font. While this is true, point size is also used for measuring leading, tracking, line length, and more.\n\nTo give an idea of the scale of point size, 1 inch is the equivalent of 72 points. Because of this, the typography of both print and web designs can be tweaked ever so slightly to nail down the perfect layout.\n\n### Line Length\n\nWhen it comes to readability, the amount of information displayed in a given space is imperative. Line length controls the length of the text on a single line running between a page’s margins. Having too short of a line length will awkwardly squish all of the information into a claustrophobic space, and having too long of a line length will disperse the content so far apart that it’s both ugly and a chore to read.\n\n### Leading (Line Spacing)\n\nThis is the secret bread and butter that elevates your typography. Leading is the vertical space between the individual lines of text, both above and below. It’s important because it directly affects the actual design and the overall readability of the content. The readability of the font at hand should first influence the leading, the design second, and then finally be tweaked based on visual judgment.\n\n### Tracking (Letter Spacing)\n\nTracking is the adjustment of the space between letters in text. Tweaking the tracking allows you to hone in on the readability of content or drastically squeeze/extend the spacing for different dramatic effects. In more advanced cases, tracking can change subtle details in the text to improve small but important layout issues. Widows, orphans, and hyphenations are all elements that can be improved by adjusting the tracking on individual words or lines.\n\n### Kerning (Spacing Between Pairs of Characters)\n\nDiving deeper into fine-tuning, kerning is the adjustment of the spacing between individual characters in text. This differs from tracking in that it does not adjust the space equally between the letters or words in a text. Instead, kerning adjusts the spacing relative to what appears to be off.\n\nTake this string of letters “AVT” for example. At first glance, the ‘A’ and ‘V’ feel farther apart than the ‘V’ and ‘T’. This is where kerning comes into play. Depending on the font, these gaps will either be bigger or smaller; kerning takes that into account and adjusts the spacing to facilitate visual appeal and readability.\n\n## Accessibility and Optimal Line Length for Different Devices\n\nIn typography, accessibility doesn't just apply to the visually impaired; it's about creating a universally pleasant reading experience for all audiences across all devices. This inclusivity is especially relevant in today's digital age, where content is consumed on various screens with varying dimensions. Understanding and implementing optimal line length is key to achieving such accessibility.\n\nOptimal line length is the number of characters per line (CPL) that enhances readability and comprehension. Research suggests an ideal line length ranges from 50 to 75 CPL for text in a single-column layout. This range strikes a balance, preventing eye strain from short, choppy lines and loss of reading place in overly long lines. However, the optimal CPL can vary based on the context, including the device used for reading.\n\n### Desktop and Laptop Displays\n\nFor larger screens, such as desktops and laptops, maintaining a line length of around 60 to 75 CPL is beneficial. This ensures that the text is not stretched too wide, which can make tracking from the end of one line to the beginning of the next difficult. A shorter line length can be considered to maintain readability in multi-column layouts.\n\n### Tablets and Mobile Devices\n\nThe shift to smaller screens requires a reevaluation of line length. On tablets, aiming for the lower end of the ideal range (around 50 to 60 CPL) can enhance readability without forcing too much horizontal scrolling. For mobile devices, this becomes even more critical. Given the limited screen width, line lengths, around 30 to 40 CPL, may need to be shorter to accommodate comfortable reading without compromising accessibility.\n\n### Adjusting for Accessibility\n\nEnhancing typography for accessibility involves more than just adjusting line lengths. It's crucial to consider other elements, such as font size, contrast, and spacing. Responsive design plays a pivotal role here, dynamically adjusting typography based on the device's screen size. This ensures that whether someone is reading on a large monitor or a small smartphone, the text remains accessible and legible.\n\nImplementing these practices is about adhering to standards and respecting your audience's diverse needs. It demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that your message is not only seen but also understood by everyone. As we navigate the digital landscape, let's strive to make our typographical choices thoughtful and inclusive, making every word count towards a better reading experience for all.\n\n## Don’t Underestimate Typography\n\nMany take typography for granted. When properly understood and applied, it can immediately elevate a design by establishing the aforementioned visual hierarchy. To influence the overall tone and graphic balance of the design, the hierarchy subconsciously guides the reader to a more straightforward understanding through structured typographical choices.\n\n**Looking for more help with UI design?** Alopex is here for you. The concept described a scenario where clients, initially excited about our work, became critical upon seeing their invoices. This post, which went viral, sparked important discussions within the industry about the challenges of agency-client relationships. Since then, we've grown and refined our practices, incorporating valuable lessons learned. In this update, we revisit those insights and share how our approach has evolved, including the introduction of our \"Are You Feeling It?\" method of communication. \n\n### Reflecting on Communication and Transparency\n\nOur original post emphasized the crucial role of communication in preventing the Billpolar effect. In the past three years, we've significantly expanded our team to support these efforts. We've brought in specialists dedicated to tracking project progress and enhancing client communications. This growth has allowed us to provide more personalized and consistent updates, ensuring that our clients are always in the loop.\n\nWe've also deployed more robust project management tools tailored specifically to our workflows. These tools enable us to offer real-time project visibility, allowing clients to see progress and understand the work being done. This transparency has been crucial in fostering a more collaborative and trusting environment, as it not only keeps clients informed but also allows for more efficient project adjustments based on ongoing feedback. By enhancing our communication infrastructure and project management capabilities, we've been able to reduce misunderstandings and strengthen our client relationships, making our engagements smoother and more productive.\n\n### Clarity in Billing and Expectations\n\nWe recognized that confusion around billing often contributes to the Billpolar effect. Over the past three years, we've refined our billing practices to enhance transparency. Detailed invoices and thorough onboarding sessions now ensure clients understand every aspect of our billing structure. This upfront clarity has been instrumental in setting realistic financial expectations and preventing surprises.\n\n### Setting Realistic Goals and Managing Expectations\n\nA key lesson from the original post was the importance of setting and managing expectations. We've developed a more comprehensive onboarding process, where we clearly outline the goals, timelines, and potential outcomes of our projects. By educating clients on the nuances of marketing and the timeframes required to see results, we've been able to align expectations more closely with reality.\n\n### Building Trust Through Consistency and Openness\n\nTrust remains the foundation of our client relationships. We've learned that consistent delivery and openness are essential in maintaining this trust. We've focused on being transparent about challenges and honest about potential outcomes. This candid approach has helped us build stronger, more resilient relationships, as clients appreciate the integrity and reliability we bring to the table.\n\n### The \"Are You Feeling It?\" Method\n\nA significant innovation we've introduced is the \"Are You Feeling It?\" method, especially effective for clients on a recurring retainer. This approach starts every biweekly or monthly check-in with a simple question: \"Are you feeling it?\" This question sets the stage for open dialogue and honest feedback, allowing us to gauge the client's satisfaction and address any concerns immediately.\n\nThe recurring retainer model provides predictability and efficiency. For us, it means having the freedom to act decisively without constant administrative delays. For clients, it offers budgetable costs and a streamlined process. The \"Are You Feeling It?\" question complements this by ensuring continuous alignment and responsiveness to client needs.\n\n### Moving Forward: Lessons and Growth\n\nReflecting on the past three years, we've seen significant growth in our approach to client relationships. The initial \"Billpolar\" post was a catalyst for change, pushing us to refine our communication strategies and billing transparency. The introduction of the \"Are You Feeling It?\" method has further enhanced our ability to maintain open, honest, and productive client interactions.\n\nAt Alopex, we're committed to these principles of clear communication, realistic expectation-setting, and mutual trust. These elements are critical to avoiding the pitfalls of the Billpolar effect and ensuring a healthy, productive partnership. As we continue to evolve, we're excited to keep building on these foundations, helping our clients navigate the complexities of marketing with confidence and clarity.\n\nWhether you're an existing client or considering partnering with us, our goal remains the same: to deliver exceptional service with transparency and trust. Let's keep the conversation going—are you feeling it? Let's explore your needs and ensure we're always in sync, delivering the best possible results together.","date":"2024-07-30T22:53:43.738Z","category":["strategy"],"id":"a52bb507-7eeb-572d-a1c8-944846da66b1"}},{"node":{"title":"3 Questions to Ask Your Website Builder in 2024 - 2025","excerpt":"One of the major challenges for marketing departments and business owners when having a website designed and coded is understanding exactly what they’re getting. Our industry is notorious for a myriad of shady business practices","slug":"3-questions-to-ask-a-new-web-developer","body":"AI, site builder tools (like Wix and Squarespace), and outsourcing have significantly affected the playing field for having a website built, and not necessarily for the better.\n\nOne of the major challenges for marketing departments and business owners when having a website designed and coded is understanding exactly what they’re getting. Our industry is notorious for a myriad of shady business practices—from holding websites hostage, to outsourcing work, to simply lying about their physical location. About half of our workload at Alopex Interaction Design is triaging existing websites to figure out exactly how they were built, and boy, have we seen some interesting websites.\n\nYou want to make sure that your new website is a sound investment. Here are 3 questions to ask a new web contractor.\n\n## Who is doing the coding?\n\nThis is self-evident, but don’t fall into the trap of believing that the person who you are talking to is going to be the person writing the code. Ask very specifically, “Are you the one writing the code for the site?” If they are, great! That should make working with them much more efficient.\n\n**If their answer is “no” then ask who is—and perhaps more importantly—*where is the developer located*.**\n\nNot all outsourcing is bad, but the sad reality is that more and more marketing \"gurus\" are hiring cheap labor overseas, often with teams they have never even met. If you have been looking for a website builder for any amount of time, you have probably been bombarded with mass emails by companies in the Philippines and India that are essentially website sweat shops.\n\nThat doesn't mean that their work is bad, but it does introduce a significant literal and metaphorical distance between you and the people who are actually doing the work. Sadly, it is not unusual for us to uncover the fact that our clients thought they were paying someone local for custom work when they really aren't.\n\nAt Alopex, our developers work in-house with our designers and account staff. We can ask questions directly to each other and quickly problem-solve. It is a constant source of frustration for our clients when they realize that the people who they believed were producing the work are merely paying someone else to do it. This can cause major problems if the middle-man loses contact with the actual coder. We work with many clients who have no access to their hosting, their domain name, or the code of their website.\n\n## Do I own all the rights to use your work?\n\nIf your contract does not explicitly assign you rights to the contractor’s work then your developer could simply withdraw your right to use their work—and they could do so entirely legally. We are often contracted to build websites rapidly when our clients realize that they don’t own the rights to their previously contracted website. Sites and developers that offer recurring monthly costs rather than upfront ones effectively run off of holding your website hostage. If, God forbid, you work with a company that has purchased your domain, hosting, and email, you may not even have recourse to reclaim any of it if you choose to work with someone else.\n\nWhat you must stipulate is that you want the perpetual, exclusive license to use their work OR that you want all rights assigned to you. DO NOT ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITHOUT SPECIFYING OWNERSHIP!\n\nOn that note, it is important to understand copyright when contracting work from agencies and producers. For example, did you know that if you have a logo designed, you don't actually own it unless you specifically have the designer assign the rights to you?\n\nAs a marketing agency working with small businesses in Alaska, we often find that our clients are completely in the dark about the rights to their own work. If you want some help figuring that out, just [reach out](/contact/) to us.\n\n## Is your work well documented and designed?\n\nRecently Alopex was contacted by a client in a small town in Alaska where their local developer passed away suddenly. It appears as though he was also providing his hosting—which makes things very difficult. Accidents happen, and for whatever reason, if you need to be able to get access to your site and files, you need to know how to do that.\n\nThere are two levels to this:\n\n1. The technical information about your hosting, domain name, and any other services used in the creation of your website.\n2. The quality and way in which your website was written.\n\nMake sure that you have an updated list of your logins at all times. If possible, you should own your domain and hosting. We have seen so many websites held hostage when there is a disagreement or one party is ready to move on. Maintain a spreadsheet with all logins and test them as often as you can. (As a reminder, we offer this as part of our [web maintenance services](/services/website-support-management/).)\n\nRegarding the quality of work, this is the main issue that we deal with: Awful code. I’ll save this rant for another post, but developers are not all made equal and it is not unusual for us to look at the backend of a website and realize that the person Frankensteined the code—it is a mishmash of code that wasn’t even written by the ‘developer’. The only way around this is to vet your developer early on. If they have a degree in Computer Science, that’s preferable as they will most likely use conventions and best practices. What you do not want is someone who taught themselves WordPress or Joomla and works with templates. This is a recipe for having to rebuild your entire website when you need a major update.\n\nIf you aren’t sure whether your website is in a good spot or if your prospective developer is a good fit. Let us know. We regularly audit websites, rate codes, and ensure that the work performed is up to par. If so, you may have encountered what I call a \"Billpolar\" client. As the director of Alopex, an Alaska-based marketing agency, I have had my fair share of Billpolar clients. These are clients who are initially thrilled with our work, but become hyper-critical of our invoices and entries as soon as they see the bill. In this blog post, I want to explore why Billpolar clients can be a terminal path for professional relationships, and offer some tips for avoiding the Billpolar trap.\n\nOne of the most common reasons for Billpolar behavior is a lack of communication between the client and the agency. Clients who are too busy to meet with their agencies regularly, or who ignore invoices for extended periods of time, are setting themselves up for disappointment. At Alopex, we require regular meetings with our clients to ensure that everyone is on the same page and to address any concerns or questions in a timely manner. We also make sure to send out invoices on a regular schedule, and we encourage clients to review them promptly.\n\nAnother common cause of Billpolar behavior is a lack of understanding about billing practices. Clients who do not take the time to understand their agency's billing structure or who are surprised by unexpected charges are more likely to become Billpolar. At Alopex, we make sure to explain our billing practices clearly and transparently to our clients from the outset of the relationship. We also encourage clients to ask questions if they are unsure about any aspect of our billing or services.\n\nBillpolar behavior can also be a result of unrealistic expectations. Clients who expect instant results or who do not take the time to understand the complexities of the marketing process may become frustrated or disappointed when their expectations are not met. At Alopex, we make sure to set realistic expectations for our clients from the outset of the relationship. We explain the timeframes involved in each stage of the process and make sure that our clients understand the work that goes into each stage.\n\nTrust is essential to any successful professional relationship, and Billpolar behavior can be a result of a lack of trust between the client and the agency. Clients who do not trust their agency to deliver on their promises or who feel that their agency is not listening to their concerns may become Billpolar. At Alopex, we understand the importance of building trust with our clients from the outset of the relationship. We make sure to listen to our clients' concerns and address them promptly and professionally. We also encourage open communication with our clients and make ourselves available to them whenever they need us.\n\nIt's important to acknowledge that not every professional relationship is a good fit, despite best efforts on both sides. As an Alaska-based marketing agency, Alopex has encountered situations where we've done everything in our power to maintain a positive relationship with our clients, only to face recurring issues of miscommunication or unrealistic expectations. While we prioritize clear communication and transparency in managing client expectations, there are times when a breakdown in the relationship cannot be remedied. In these cases, it's okay to recognize that the professional relationship is not serving either party and to move on.\n\nBillpolar behavior can be a terminal path for professional relationships. To avoid the Billpolar trap, clients should make sure to communicate regularly with their agency, understand their agency's billing practices, set realistic expectations, and trust their agency. At Alopex, we understand the importance of clear and timely communication in managing client expectations and maintaining positive client relationships. If you're looking for a technologically progressive Alaska marketing agency that values transparency, trust, and open communication, look no further than Alopex.","date":"2023-04-24T04:34:48.180Z","category":["design"],"id":"92402f9f-900c-5dec-bf76-83fe79eafb18"}},{"node":{"title":"The Art of a Favicon","excerpt":"When you browse the web, you'll notice that each website you visit has a tiny icon in the browser tab next to the page title. This icon is called a favicon and serves a much bigger purpose than its small size might suggest. A favicon is an essential part of any website's branding and design, and it can convey a lot about a website's purpose, tone, and identity.\n\n## What is a Favicon?\n\nA favicon is a small image, typically measuring 16x16 pixels or 32x32 pixels, displayed in a website's browser tab and bookmarks bar. It is usually in the form of a tiny logo or icon that represents the website, and it helps users identify and remember the site.\n\n## The Importance of a Favicon\n\nA favicon is an important part of a website's branding and design for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps users identify and recognize a website quickly and easily. With so many websites available, a unique and recognizable favicon can help a site stand out from the competition.\n\nAdditionally, a favicon can add to a website's overall look and feel. It's a small detail, but a well-designed favicon can make a website look more professional and polished. It also serves as a subtle but effective way to reinforce a website's branding and identity.\n\n## Designing a Favicon\n\nDesigning a favicon might seem straightforward, given its small size, but there are several design implications to consider. When creating a favicon, it's essential to consider the website's branding and identity, as well as its overall tone and purpose.\n\nA favicon should be simple and memorable, with clear shapes and colors that are easy to recognize even at a small size. It's also important to consider the contrast and readability of the icon, especially against different background colors. Finally, a favicon should be consistent with the overall design and branding of the website.\n\n## Meaning Behind a Favicon\n\nA favicon can also convey a lot about a website's purpose, tone, and identity. For example, a website dealing with finance or banking might use an icon representing a dollar sign or a piggy bank, while a travel website might use an airplane or a map. Similarly, a website that caters to a specific audience might use an icon that appeals to that demographic.\n\nFavicons can also change over time. For example, Google's favicon has evolved over the years from a simple lowercase \"g\" to the now-familiar multicolored \"Google\" logo. This change was made to align the favicon with the company's overall branding and design.\n\n## A Little Touch With a Big Presence\n\nThe art of a favicon might seem like a small detail, but it has a significant impact on a website's overall branding and design. It is a tool of communication that can influence mood, convey rapidly digested ideas, incite physiological reactions, and, most importantly, make or break a design. You've probably heard the terms RGB, HEX, and CMYK floating around, but knowing their intricacies only further complicates the matter. Seeing that it is such a powerful tool, it should be no surprise to hear that it is rather difficult to master. \n\nColor is not static; it’s constantly influenced by the world around it. Even though a certain red might appear one way on your phone, this doesn't mean it will look the same on your laptop or just a printed piece of paper. Color properties change from the slightest interferences from light, texture, and even just how one color appears to look when placed next to another. This makes it difficult to pinpoint a single color across a multitude of mediums.\n\nWhen it comes to design, color is an entire subject in and of itself. For now, we’ll just focus on how to keep your color values consistent.\n\n### What You Need to Know\n\nTo keep colors consistent across every possible medium, there are 4 color modes that represent and tweak color across applications:\n\n![RGB/HEX](/images/rgb.png \"RGB/HEX\")\n\n**RGB**\n\nWhether you’re a designer or not, you’ve most likely heard of RGB. When colors are displayed on a screen, they are rendered using reds, greens, and blues. The screen you’re looking at consists of thousands of pixels, each currently displaying a red, green, or blue color value. These three colors are added together in varying amounts to create every other color in the color wheel, making RGB an additive color system.\n\nAs far as design goes, RGB color values are used when rendering color on anything with a screen. Seeing that all screens are backlit, RGB is the simplest way to display colors accurately across different devices. Bear in mind, that the colors will still be represented differently depending on the individual color settings on a given device.\n\n**HEX**\n\n![HEX](/images/hex.png \"HEX\")\n\nHEX, short for hexadecimal, is used primarily in web design. It consists of a six-digit combination of letters and numbers that represent different color values for red, green, and blue respectively. Consider it to be the shorthand version of RGB that is specifically used for web design.\n\n![CMYK](/images/cmyk.png \"CMYK\")\n\n**CMYK**\n\nUnlike RGB and HEX, CMYK is not used for on-screen purposes—it’s used for print. As mentioned previously, color is influenced by the world around it. Because of this, colors represented by CMYK take into account the lack of constant light on printed materials.\n\nCMYK uses the colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (referred to as ‘key’) to create the spectrum of colors. Rather than have the colors created through individual pixels sitting side by side, like RGB, CMYK creates colors by overlapping tiny dots of color to create the correct value during the printing process.\n\nTo account for the lighting conditions of printed material, CMYK is a subtractive color system. This means that the color values you see are created by removing colors, rather than adding them together like RGB. Doing so allows the colors on printed material to absorb more light since there’s less ink present on the finished product—this little difference is what makes professionally printed pictures look drastically different than those printed in your home office (using RGB color values). \n\nIn short, don’t take color modes and their applications for granted.\n\n![Pantone](/images/pantone.png \"Pantone\")\n\n**Pantone**\n\nThe Rosetta Stone of color in the design. Pantone is the near-universal method of communicating proper print colors between designers and printers. Having been around since 1962, Pantone has established what they call the Pantone Matching System. This proprietary system standardizes colors for reproduction in print, allowing designers and printers to effortlessly communicate accurate colors for any print job.\n\nMost notably, they offer guides that essentially translate and facilitate color communication in a professional landscape. Their Formula Guide is considered to be the worldwide standard for choosing and matching colors, allowing designers and printers a streamlined method of picking and choosing the right colors for the job. Once the colors are chosen, the designers and printers can refer to the Color Bridge Guide. The Pantone Color Bridge Guide uses physical color swatches to help translate print colors and tones to RGB, HTML (HEX), and CMYK to ensure consistency throughout the entire design process.\n\n### Consistency is Key\n\nKnowing the ins and outs of proper color representation allows for clean color consistency across your entire brand. Color consistency is key when it comes to increasing and maintaining your brand’s perceived value—something imperative for growth.\n\n**Luckily, Alopex can help.** We do design, and we’re good at what we do. Why is it Important?","excerpt":"Brand guides are important tools that go hand-in-hand with owning and operating a business. Most never deal with them, so what makes them so important?","slug":"brand-guides","body":"### What is a brand guide?\n\nA brand guide is a wonderful tool that sets and keeps track of all of the rules and regulations that a business follows when making, curating, and presenting anything related to their brand—think logo design, voice, and more. \n\nAlso known as brand guidelines, a style guide, and a brand style guide, this document walks you through things like brand story, typography, logo design, voice, and all of the various visual elements that create a [brand](https://alopexid.com/news/brand-what-why-does-it-matter/). In short, a brand guide keeps your brand identity clear and consistent across every medium of communication.\n\n![Brand Guide](/images/brand-guide.png \"Brand Guide\")\n\n### What's in a brand guide?\n\nThere are a multitude of elements that can be in a brand guide. Since brand guides cater to each individual company, it’s rather difficult to definitively state what you’ll find in one. Although, there are a few things that are consistent throughout all of them.\n\n1. **Brand Logo** - This section details everything someone needs to know about properly using your logo. It covers everything related to logo design like colors, scaling, clear space, guidelines on what to not do with the logo, and more.\n\n   For some logo designs, the brand guide will also detail the same information for a **submark**—a less detailed version of the logo, often used like a watermark.\n\n   ![Brand Logo](/images/logo-construction.png \"Brand Logo\")\n2. **Color Palette** - Unfortunately, [colors](https://alopexid.com/news/keeping-your-colors-consistent/) can be fickle. Keeping track of all of the CMYK, RGB, and HTML hex values can be a thorn in your side. The slightest change in a single color value can throw off an entire design, document, or whatever is being worked on. The color palette within a brand guide keeps track of all of these values, ensuring that the correct colors are used at all times.\n\n   ![Color Palette](/images/asset-1.png \"Color Palette\")\n3. **Typography** - Typography dictates everything you need to know about the fonts your brand uses. It covers everything relating to the font families and typefaces; things like font sizes, weights, and hierarchies.\n\n   ![Typography](/images/asset-2.png \"Typography\")\n\nOftentimes, larger companies take the time to specify more elements like the brand story, how to use illustrations, and even how to write on behalf of the company. Examples of these other brand guide elements include:\n\n**Brand Story** - This acts as an introduction to the brand, detailing the brand mission, values, and personality.\n\n**Writing Style** - Everyone has a different voice. A writing style section works in conjunction with editorial guidelines to help ensure consistent tone, personality, and language to use when writing on behalf of the company.\n\n**Editorial Guidelines** - These guidelines detail how and when to refer to specified products, services, locations, key words or whatever may need active spelling and grammar regulations.\n\n**Graphic Elements** - It should go without saying that keeping your brand’s visual elements in check is really important when it comes to maintaining a clear and consistent brand identity. Because of this, detailed brand guides often set rules for things like illustrations, patterns, icons, and shapes—any miscellaneous established elements that coincide with logo design or the general brand.\n\n### Why brand guides are important\n\nAs mentioned previously, brand guides are important because they establish and maintain consistency across the entire brand. This consistency is achieved by setting the standards for all design and copy elements. \n\nCreating these standards help to eliminate any confusion or contradictions among anyone drafting documents, web design, or any given medium. Moving forward, these standards keep your brand on track. This makes it easier to maintain clear, recognizable brand identity and even facilitate changes in the future when needed.\n\nAll of this culminates to not only reducing headaches for you and your company, but these factors all work together to increase your brand’s perceived value. Maintaining the quality, integrity, and consistency of your brand allows it to convey a true sense of professionalism and reliability.\n\n**Alopex can help you get your brand on point.** Our team focuses on clarity and quality. SEM is vital to attracting new visitors to a website and growing an online presence.","slug":"sem-at-a-glance","body":"### What is SEM?\n\nSEM stands for “Search Engine Marketing”, the process of using paid advertising to increase a website’s visibility in search engine results. SEM is an integral factor in attracting new visitors to a website and growing an online presence, its biggest strength being that it puts your ads in front of consumers that are actively looking to purchase as they search.\n\n### SEM vs. SEO\n\n![SEM vs. SEO](/images/sem-vs-seo-01.png \"SEM vs. SEO\")\n\nWith many different acronyms floating around, it can be hard to keep them straight. Fortunately, there’s a key difference that sets SEM and [SEO ](/news/seo-glance/)apart.\n\nSEM, or Search Engine Marketing, acts as a temporary FastPass to the front of the search engine line by using paid advertising efforts. Visibility is paid for, not earned.\n\nSEO, being shorthand for “Search Engine Optimization”, doesn’t involve paying for anything. SEO uses practices that aim to generate organic search results based on how a website is created and the content housed within. Visibility is earned, not paid for.\n\nRegardless of their differences, SEM and SEO should be working in tandem to help ensure your online marketing strategy is as good and effective as it can be.\n\n### Key Words\n\n![Key Words](/images/sem-01.png \"Key Words\")\n\nMuch like SEO, SEM depends on keywords. In the case of SEM, however, keywords aren’t injected. They’re chosen.\n\nRather than placing keywords within content, the page title, and URL, SEM requires you to decide what keywords your targeted demographic will be searching when browsing for products or services. This is what allows your ads to appear alongside desired search results, effectively claiming a spot without having to earn it through SEO.\n\nUnfortunately, this process is not as simple as it may sound. Just because you’ve decided on a target keyword(s) doesn’t mean that your ads will appear alongside those search results every time.\n\n### The Ad Auction\n\n![Ad Auction](/images/alopex-blog-01.png \"Ad Auction\")\n\nAs for how the ads appear alongside desired search results, this can get confusing. There is an “ad auction” that takes place every single time someone searches for something. This isn’t an auction that anyone attends, instead, it is the ad platform (like Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising) deciding whose ad is most appropriate.\n\nThere are several factors that ad platforms take into account when deciding which ad wins the auction. The most important of these factors is the CPC bid (cost per click, the amount that you pay the ad platform each time your ad is clicked on), and the Quality Score (basically the quality and relevance of your ads and chosen keywords). For a better idea of how this works, check out [Google’s explanation](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/142918?hl=en#:~:text=Each%20time%20an%20ad%20is,whose%20keywords%20match%20that%20search.) of their ad auction.\n\n### Your Online Marketing Strategy\n\nBear in mind, that this isn’t a comprehensive guide. There are a bunch more intricacies and strategies that go into the effective use of SEM. Either option has pros and cons, so which should you use?","slug":"squarespace-vs-wordpress","body":"![Squarespace vs Wordpress](/images/sq-vs-wp-01.jpg \"Squarespace vs. Wordpress\")\n\nWhether it's time to create a new company website or upgrade an existing one, it’s always good to be familiar with your options. More often than not, you’ll hear about Squarespace, the simple and dependable website builder with award-winning templates, and WordPress, the open-source content management system that makes up 40% of the web. Either option has pros and cons, so which should you use?\n\nWith years of experience building bespoke digital presences on both platforms, we at Alopex have learned a thing or two.\n\n## The price tag\n\n![The Price Tag ](/images/price-tag-01.jpg \"The Price Tag\")\n\nBudgets are important for any project and building a website is no exception. Having an idea of how much each platform costs can help you keep your budget happy.\n\n### Squarespace\n\nSquarespace is fairly straightforward. It is a simple, code-free website builder that provides templates, hosting, e-commerce features, and support all through a simple subscription fee. This fee ranges from $12-$40 per month, with each subscription plan incrementally adding features to the website. Bear in mind, you won’t get all of the bells and whistles that Squarespace has to offer without maximizing your plan.\n\n### WordPress\n\nWordPress, looking at the ‘self-hosted’ version, is a free open-source sandbox. This means that it can be customized extensively to meet the needs or wants of a given project. Being the flexible tool that it is, there is also an implied development cost (unless you have extensive experience in website development).\n\nOn top of this, you must pay for hosting, otherwise there would be no place to actually use the WordPress software. If need be, you’ll also have to tack on the cost of e-commerce integration tools and premium plugins/themes if you so choose, though this is not a necessity given that they boast over 50,000 free plugins and 8,000 free themes. \n\nAll things considered, we’d advise your website is built to suit while effectively maximizing your budget.\n\n## Business size\n\n![Business size](/images/untitled-1-01.jpg \"Business size\")\n\nBusinesses come in all shapes and sizes, and that matters. Building a website is like building a house; you’re going to want to make sure you have plenty of space for everything you need with room for more.\n\n### Squarespace\n\nSquarespace is geared toward small businesses or individuals looking to easily get their brand on the internet. It is much more budget friendly, facilitating minimal needs for an effective platform that performs straight out of the box. However, Squarespace is rather restricted in terms of ‘creative liberty’ and future expansion.\n\n### WordPress\n\nWordPress, on the other hand, is flexible enough to meet the demand of a large or growing business. If you plan on eventually taking your brand to the next level, expansion opportunities are a must. Given its open-source sandbox design, the options available within WordPress will help ease your growing pains and facilitate bigger and better opportunities for both you and your business.\n\n## SEO and SEO optimization\n\n![Seo optimization](/images/seo-01.jpg \"Seo optimization\")\n\nSearch Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important metric for any website. For a quick overview, take a look at [SEO At a Glance](/news/seo-glance/). Put succinctly, SEO helps determine how easily your website can be found on the internet.\n\n### Squarespace\n\nSquarespace has several built in SEO tools that each contribute to better SEO optimization, but it is ultimately capped. Other useful tools that would allow us to directly improve the SEO of your site have limited accessibility, making it much more difficult to refine your webpage rank. Luckily, Squarespace is equipped to handle Google Analytics right away, so long as you’re already paying for it.\n\n### WordPress\n\nSeeing that WordPress is open-source, you have the ability to incorporate a very wide range of SEO plugins that can help suggest improvements and make specific tweaks. Like Squarespace, Google Analytics can also be easily integrated into your site.\n\nIn short, Squarespace has a very good SEO optimization system, but WordPress will allow you to take it above and beyond. \n\n## Content management options\n\nContent management is a crucial aspect to maintaining any website. This is what allows us to actively make changes, edit, and publish new content on the site.\n\n### Squarespace\n\n![Squarespace block management UI](/images/squarespace-content-blocks.png \"Squarespace block management UI\")\n\nGiven Squarespace’s more simple design, it lacks several features that help with content management. You’re restricted to the blocks found on the website with minimal ability to make fine edits, mainly because it operates on a ‘what you see is what you get’ system. You do have access to code blocks, but not direct access to the main HTML of the website (how we make those fine edits).\n\n### WordPress\n\n![Wordpress block management UI](/images/image.png \"Wordpress block management UI\")\n\nWordPress, unlike Squarespace, boasts features like autosave and the ability to make changes by way of HTML or ‘what you see is what you get’, a proper media library, and a more in depth category and tag system for content. In other words, WordPress has the capacity to make fine edits while streamlining content management.\n\n## E-commerce\n\n![Ecommerce](/images/ecommerce-01.jpg \"Ecommerce\")\n\nIf you plan on selling anything, then your website will need an e-commerce system. Luckily, e-commerce is now exceedingly common, allowing both Squarespace and WordPress to easily support your online transaction needs; though there are still differences to keep in mind.\n\n### Squarespace\n\nSquarespace has an integrated e-commerce system that is included in the subscription, but it’s rather limited. Not only does it just have basic sales analytics, but it also lacks multi-currency payments and is not guaranteed to work properly in all countries. Fortunately, Squarespace does have the option to integrate other e-commerce services through code blocks if their built-in system doesn’t suit your needs; just know that it can get complicated.\n\nThough, if you don’t need a lot to get your online business transactions off the ground, then the simplicity of Squarespace's integrated e-commerce system is what allows it to shine.\n\n### WordPress\n\nWhen considering WordPress, it doesn’t have an integrated e-commerce system. What it does have is access to nearly any e-commerce system through its plugin library. There is a steeper learning curve alongside it, but it ultimately creates more options with more accessibility than Squarespace.\n\n## Data Portability\n\nImagine a world where every time you move from one home to another you have to leave behind everything you own and start fresh again. That wouldn’t be any fun and would eventually cost a fortune. \n\nData portability is what allows you to pack up your website and move. If you ever need to change platforms or services, it's always good to be able to transfer all of your hard work.\n\nSquarespace’s ability to pack up and move website data is limited, only allowing certain elements of a current website to be exported as an XML file. \n\nWordPress instead allows you to export all of your data, as well as backup themes, plugins, and your entire database.\n\n![Wordpress Export Tool](/images/data_portability-wordpress.png \"Wordpress Export Tool\")\n\n## So which is best for you?\n\nThere’s a lot that goes into choosing the perfect website; things like purpose, future goals, and budgets all play equally heavy hands in the matter. \n\nTo oversimplify, WordPress is far more powerful and flexible than its website builder counterparts. WordPress is built for companies and brands with complex and scalable needs.\n\nSquarespace is the more budget-friendly alternative. With plenty of pre-made templates to choose from and an easy drag-and-drop system, it's perfect for small businesses or brands with simple needs.\n\n**Still lost?** We’re here to help. Alopex actively uses both Squarespace and WordPress to craft what our clients need; in other words, we're well versed in either option. We’ve launched hundreds of websites, and here’s a few things you need to know.\n\n### Propagation\n\nThe web is a complex connection of various mini-webs. When we hit ‘publish’ it’s not an immediate thing, it can take up to 48 hours for your website to be seen the same way around the world. \n\nThis time period is known as propagation. During this time, every single server across the entire internet is communicating with one another and updating their information. As you could expect, that is a lot of ground to cover. Because of this, coworkers, friends, and family around the world might see something different to what you see until the process is complete. There is nothing we can do to speed this up, so hang tight. If, after 48 hours, you still see something funky, just reach out to us.\n\n### Clear your Cache\n\nIn the meantime, there is something you can try on your own—clear your browser's cache.\n\nEvery time you visit a website for the first time, your browser stores information from the site so that it comes up faster the next time. This means that your browser might be showing you its saved data rather than what’s actually on the web. In order to update this saved data, you will need to clear your cache. If you’re unsure how to do this, just go to [clear-my-cache.com](https://clear-my-cache.com/), select ‘Detect my Browser’, and follow the instructions.\n\n### Report Issues After 48 Hours\n\nWe expect bugs. There are thousands of devices and browsers, and although we do a lot to prepare your site for this, there might be issues we need to manually resolve. We need some key information from you to quickly resolve these issues.  Give as call!\n\n### Time to Shine - Get Your Website Noticed\n\nOnce your website has made it out of propagation and is displaying properly across the web, it’s time to get it in front of eager eyes. Simply having a website go live does not mean it will instantly attract visitors. Luckily, there’s a solution: Search Engine Marketing (SEM).\n\nSEM is an integral factor in attracting new visitors to a website and growing an online presence. For a brief overview, take a look at [SEM at a Glance](/news/sem-at-a-glance/). In the meantime, think of SEM as a temporary fastpass to the front of the search engine line. SEM uses paid advertisements associated with assorted keywords that appear on search engine results pages. In other words, utilizing SEM will inject your website into the search results where it needs to be.\n\nBoth [SEO](/news/seo-glance/) and SEM should be working in tandem to help ensure your online marketing strategy is as good as it can be.\n\n**Don't know where to start?** We do. Alopex is focused on results. We get those results by stretching our clients’ marketing budget further than their competitors’, all thanks to our key ingredient—data. Websites can seem like a one-and-done investment, but to use a site effectively you’ll need to update it regularly. Let us break it down for you.\n\n### 1. BRAND APPEAL\n\nany advertiser will tell you that every color, shape and sentence on your site is something customers associate with your brand. If those shapes are dull, uninteresting, or look like something more at home in an early 2000s flash game… well, it doesn’t say great things about you. Graphical standards are constantly updating, and as screen resolutions get better, more of your site is seen. Most experts recommend overhauling your site completely every three years.\n\n### 2. ACCESSIBILITY\n\nwhen people first hear about your business, chances are they’re not at a computer. Many of your business’s first impressions are done viaa phone. Thus, responsive design– that is, mobile optimization– is a requirement. Plus, that responsive design has to keep up with constantly updating software systems and browsers. You can have the sleekest site on the net, but if mobile users have to scroll to the side to see the whole page, it’s going to look poorly-made.\n\n### 3. EFFORT\n\nLook around, middle schoolers are building websites for their school projects. It’s incredibly easy to make a passable site, and consumers know it. If you don’t have an updated website, it tells your customers one of two things: you’re lazy, or you’re drastically behind the times. Neither is a good look.\n\nFind this article helpful? Coca-Cola. Apple. Those internet celebrities that toss the word out like candy. That’s all well and good, but none of these associations helps anyone to understand what it means.\n\n### So what is brand?\n\nSimply put, “brand” is you. It’s company culture: your business’s beliefs, values, and conduct. More importantly, it’s how potential customers perceive your company’s culture. That’s where the advertising industry’s interest comes in.\n\nLet’s look at Google, for example. What do you know about them? They’re successful, innovative, and, if Forbes is to be believed, fun. You don’t know exactly how their management system is structured; neither do most of their consumers. What matters is that they clearly convey their company culture, so everyone that knows the word “Google” knows what it means. *That’s* brand.\n\n#### You know what it means. How do you build yours?\n\nLeadership expert Simon Sinek has a theory called “The Golden Circle”; if you’ve got 20 minutes, [check out his TED Talk from 2009](https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action/). If you don’t, it boils down to this: people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. So, if you’re not communicating to potential customers the beliefs that define and drive your business, you’re selling yourself short. There’s no one-size-fits-all rule for logos, but we’ve seen enough to be able to tell you what *not* to include.\n\n## 3. The Northern Lights\n\nYes, they’re beautiful and colorful. They’re also very popular. Many Alaskan businesses incorporate the northern lights into their logo; it’s a low-hanging Alaskan cultural reference that already has an interesting shape and color palette. People think this means they can create a semi-interesting design without putting much thought into it.\n\n## 2. Moose and/or Caribou\n\nUnless your business is directly related to these hoofed beasts– like our friends at the [Reindeer Farm](https://www.reindeerfarm.com/)– do yourself a favor and rethink integrating them into your logo. Think about why you wanted one of these in the first place. If your only desire was to “Alaskanize” your iconography, you probably need to reorganize your priority list before commissioning someone.\n\n## 1. Mountains\n\nWe get it. They’re everywhere, all the time. Mountains are constantly on the horizon here, and you want your logo to convey that same common Alaskan experience. So does everyone else. You can’t drive down the highway without seeing a business with a mountain or two in the logo. If you want your company’s symbol to be like everybody else’s, make it a mountain.\n\n### A Note\n\nAs we mentioned before, every logo is a special case. It’s an art; there are no “rules.” If you feel one or all of these are a quintessential part of your business, go for it– just ask one of our experts if it’s a good idea first.","date":"2021-02-26T03:37:00.000Z","category":["branding","design"],"id":"f9166815-c7ba-579c-b52b-4b6cccbbecfa"}},{"node":{"title":"SEO at a Glance","excerpt":"What is SEO? SEO is shorthand for “Search Engine Optimization”, or managing how high your webpage ranks in search engine results. If you want your page to be found on the internet, you need SEO.","slug":"seo-glance","body":"Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the backbone of online visibility. If you’ve ever wondered how websites secure top spots in search engine results, SEO is the answer. It’s a complex and multifaceted strategy designed to make your website visible to search engines and, more importantly, valuable to your audience.\n\n## What is SEO? Why is it important?\n\nSEO is about helping search engines like Google understand your website and prioritize it for relevant searches. It’s not just about increasing traffic; it’s about attracting the right visitors — those who are actively searching for what your business offers.\n\nThink of SEO as a three-part system: relevance, authority, and usability. Relevance ensures that your content answers the queries people are searching for. Authority demonstrates that your website is trustworthy, often proven through links from reputable sources. Usability ensures a smooth experience for visitors, from fast loading times to mobile compatibility. \n\nTogether, these factors influence how high your website ranks in search results.\n\n## The Foundations of SEO\n\nSEO starts with understanding its foundational components: keywords, content, [technical optimization](/news/clean-code-and-seo/), and linking. These elements work together to create a cohesive strategy.\n\n### Keywords\n\nKeywords are the bridge between your business and potential customers. These are the terms or phrases people use when searching for information online. Effective SEO begins with thorough keyword research to understand what your audience is looking for. \n\nUsing tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ahrefs can help identify high-value keywords that balance search volume and competition.\n\n### Content\n\nContent is the lifeblood of SEO. Search engines prioritize websites that provide valuable, relevant, and comprehensive content. \n\nWriting blog posts, guides, and product descriptions that solve user problems or answer questions is essential. Longer, in-depth pieces often perform better, but quality always trumps quantity. Incorporating keywords naturally into your content without overloading it is a skill that takes time to refine.\n\n### Technical Optimization\n\nTechnical Optimization ensures your website is accessible to search engines and users. This involves optimizing your website’s speed, creating a mobile-friendly design, and securing your site with HTTPS. \n\nA fast-loading, secure site is more likely to rank well and keep visitors engaged. Search engines also rely on XML sitemaps and clean navigation to index your pages effectively.\n\n### Linking\n\nLinking strategies establish your website’s authority. \n\nInternal links guide users to related content on your site, improving usability and keeping visitors engaged. \n\nExternal links, or backlinks, from reputable websites signal trustworthiness to search engines. \n\nEarning these links requires strategy, such as producing shareable content or collaborating with other industry leaders.\n\n## SEO is Accessible, but Complex\n\nThe beauty of SEO lies in its accessibility. Anyone can start by optimizing their website’s content, structure, and keywords. However, true mastery requires navigating its deeper layers. Algorithms change constantly, user behaviors evolve, and competition grows. A strategy that works today might need adjustments tomorrow.\n\nFor example, Google now prioritizes search intent—understanding what users are truly looking for when they type a query. It also uses metrics like Core Web Vitals to assess page speed, interactivity, and visual stability. Staying ahead of these trends requires continuous learning and adjustment.\n\nSEO is also complex because it’s interconnected. Improving one aspect, like content, might not yield results if your technical SEO is weak. Likewise, a fast website won’t rank if the content doesn’t address user needs. This interplay is why SEO is often best approached as an ongoing process rather than a one-time task.\n\n## Taking Your First SEO Steps\n\nFor beginners, the key is to start small. Begin by identifying the questions your audience frequently asks and create content that answers those queries. Once your content is in place, assess your website’s technical health using tools like Google Search Console. Address any issues such as slow loading speeds or broken links.\n\nAs your understanding grows, focus on earning backlinks by sharing your content with relevant industry partners or engaging in guest blogging opportunities. These foundational steps will create a strong SEO framework, though deeper optimization may require professional expertise.\n\n## When to Call in the SEO Experts\n\nWhile it’s possible to handle basic SEO tasks on your own, scaling efforts often requires specialized knowledge. Professionals can help with advanced strategies like competitive analysis, algorithm tracking, and custom content strategies. They can also provide tools and insights that go beyond surface-level optimization, ensuring your SEO efforts yield measurable results.\n\nAt Alopex Interaction Design, we help businesses craft tailored SEO strategies. From technical audits to keyword-driven content creation, we ensure every aspect of your site is optimized for growth.\n\nThis isn’t a comprehensive guide; Google alone supposedly has about 200 factors that go into ranking pages. There are a few standard logo file types that you will always need for your business, and sending the right one, the first time, means that you won’t have to spend time running around trying to find that one particular file. Here’s how we package our logos for our clients.\n\n## Logo File Types You Need\n\n* RGB\n\n  * JPG\n\n    * Color\n  * PNG\n\n    * Color\n    * Reversed\n  * SVG (Vector)\n\n    * Color\n    * Reversed\n* CMYK\n\n  * JPG\n\n    * Color\n  * EPS (Vector)\n\n    * Color\n    * Black\n    * Pantone\n    * Reversed\n\n### RGB vs CMYK\n\nThis may seem complicated, but it’s not. RGB is for digital and CMYK is for print. The big deal is that colors show up *very* differently depending on how they are being viewed. With our client, K2 Aviation, this difference is so pronounced that when an RGB logo is printed (it should be CMYK), the logo comes out closer to a deep pink than a candy apple red. Oranges and greens are notorious for this issue, so if your logo uses these colors in particular, make sure that you have a RGB and CMYK version of your logo for consistency.\n\n### Pantones\n\n*Before we get into this, note that Pantone is for print ONLY.*\n\nI won’t go into too much detail here, because most people won’t need this information, but there is another color model that you may want to have for print, particularly if you are a corporation . . . or a country. Pantone is a proprietary color system that is more like paint than ink—it is pre-mixed before being applied to whatever material you are printing on. With Pantone, you can get far more vibrant colors than CMYK printing. Not only can you produce impactful colors, but you can use neons and even metallic inks for extra impact. Pantone is so accurate in reproduction, that it has become a standard for defining colors: So much so, that most flags are defined using this color model. Here’s America’s flag colors in the PMS (Pantone Matching System). *If you want to know more about Pantone, watch our blog, we have one scheduled on the PMS system in the near future.*\n\n![Pantone colors of the American flag](/images/usflag-pantone.png \"Pantone colors of the American flag\")\n\n[Pantone colors of the American flag, an example of color output from Pantone color format logo file types](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_United_States#Colors)\n\n### Reversed\n\nReversed logos are simply white. You will want to use them when printing or displaying on a color background. DO NOT put your color logo over a dark color background. It will diminish the impact of your logo and really change the perception of your brand in some cases.\n\n### Raster & Vector\n\nRaster graphics are non-scaleable file types, such as JPG and PNG. Trying to scale an image up that is raster will result in the dreaded pixelation. This is a rookie mistake and really reflects negatively on your business. In some cases it’s required though. For example, Facebook only permits JPG, PNG and GIF logo file types. As a result, every time they make an interface change, everyone has to upload new media because the images cannot be scaled upward. For that reason, use vector graphics, wherever possible, because a vector is mathematically defined and can be scaled without losing any quality.\n\nAs for vector files, the two primary ones are EPS and SVG. Use EPS for printing and SVG for digital. Wherever possible, send your logo in these formats because it will result in a far better rendering of your graphics. To reiterate, use EPS and SVG logo file types as often as you can.\n\n### Why don’t I see a Black RGB Version?\n\nBlack logos were important when color printing was something special. Now, you are more likely to see color printing than black and white. After deciding to take your business online, you’re going to need a communication platform. Each social media service has things it does well, and other features that limit its effective use. Social media services also cater to different demographics. So which service should your business use?\n\n### **1. Facebook**\n\nFacebook is the big one; it has the most users of any social media service, and almost every demographic (though its biggest is middle-aged women). When people search for your business online, they’re almost as likely to use Facebook as Google. Facebook offers different types of pages for businesses, message communications, and an option to pay to “boost” your posts. It may take a while to build an audience on Facebook, but it’s almost an essential for many businesses today.\n\n**Pros:** *wide reach, easy to use, built-in message system*\n\n**Cons:** *limited use with younger demographics, businesses that pay are more visible*\n\n### **2. Twitter**\n\nTwitter is a unique platform; it’s ideal for connecting producers and consumers, and allows for easy communication between you and your clients. Like Facebook, it hosts a huge number of users. Twitter can be difficult for some to learn, what with hashtag and ‘@’ usage rules, but it has its advantages. It’s best for short messages and responses to other users, what with its 140-character limit. If your social media style is constant, short updates, Twitter may be your best bet.\n\n**Pros:** *wide reach, easy client communication, great for short updates*\n\n**Cons:** *more difficult user interface, character limits*\n\n### **3. Pinterest**\n\nPinterest goes hand-in-hand with backdoor marketing. It’s not as popular as Facebook or Twitter, but it’s useful for getting people in the mood to buy what you’re selling. For example, a company that offers guided hiking tours may share on their Pinterest links to buy interesting hiking sticks (that people could then use on the company’s hikes). It may not be the most effective platform for immediate results, but it works. Just keep in mind that Pinterest is a largely female market.\n\n**Pros:** *backdoor marketing tool, promotes impulse buys, creates a company aesthetic*\n\n**Cons:** *limited effectiveness*\n\n### **4. Instagram**\n\nInstagram isn’t for everyone; it’s a mostly visual platform, and if that suits your company, great! Pictures are easy enough to post quickly and with regularity, so Instagram is a platform that can be used with very little in the way of time commitment. It’s host to a young audience, usually in the fifteen to mid-thirties range, but has limited reach.\n\n**Pros:** *easy to use, highly visual, low time commitment*\n\n**Cons:** *poor communication aspect*\n\n### **5. Tumblr**\n\nTumblr is, to be sure, a particular audience. It’s still one of the most popular platforms out there, but doesn’t have the location-oriented spheres that other platforms have, so it’s not ideal for local businesses. It’s a good way to start a company blog for free, but has a slightly more difficult interface. Depending on whether you’re writing articles or sharing other users’ posts, time consumption using Tumblr can vary. Its users are primarily between fourteen and early thirties, very much on the younger side.\n\n**Pros:** *excellent as a free blogging platform*\n\n**Cons:** *limited reach, harder interface, not ideal for local businesses*\n\n### **6. Snapchat**\n\nSnapchat is rarely used as a business tool by anyone outside the teen journalism game, but it has its uses. For one, it’s widely used by the preteen to mid-twenties demographic, optimized for a younger audience than most social media platforms. It’s easy to use and is incredibly low time-commitment, but it has one major weakness: its impermanence. Snapchat’s specialty is wiping anything you post within 24 hours, making it largely ineffective for creating a company image.\n\n**Pros:** *easy to use, low time commitment*\n\n**Cons:** *limited reach,* *posts are impermanent*","date":"2021-02-21T02:32:00.000Z","category":["social media"],"id":"2dae7171-152d-58fd-b6ba-84767584d1c3"}},{"node":{"title":"Make a Simple Wordpress Blog Post","excerpt":"It is apparent that WordPress is a great CMS platform to build a low maintenance, low cost, professional website, simply by the sheer number of WordPress websites that exist today. Needless to say, WordPress is killing it.","slug":"simple-wordpress-blog-post","body":"### Introduction\n\nIt is apparent that WordPress is a great CMS platform to build a low maintenance, low cost, professional website, simply by the sheer number of WordPress websites that exist today. WordPress 6.5 has been downloaded over 136 million times and counting since July 3rd, 2024 (ref.https://wordpress.org/download/counter/). Needless to say, WordPress is killing it.\n\nMany businesses have been set up with a WordPress website by a web design professional. Usually, the business will pay a designer to update the website’s content and create new blog posts for informational or S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization) purposes. This is a great way to jump start your web presence. However, with designers’ rates ranging from $30 to $80 an hour, it can quickly become a heavy burden to maintain. Since the content itself is typically written by the business owner, it’s not a far stretch for any business to consider maintaining their website themselves. This is where I’d love to help. Below you’ll find a step-by-step, detailed tutorial on how to login to your WordPress website, create a new post, save your working progress as a draft and finally publish your new post when you’ve completed your finishing touches. Let’s get started.\n\n### You’ll need the following before you begin this tutorial\n\n* WordPress Website with Access to Admin Panel\n\n### Logging In\n\nWhen your WordPress website was installed it was given a specific URL to login through. Some themes have a “login” link in the front end of the website, such as the homepage, while others require the URL to login. The most common URL for logging in is in the form of “[www.YourDomainName.come/wp-admin](<>)”. Use whichever method your theme/installation supports and login to the Admin Panel of your website. Your login credentials are a prerequisite to this tutorial, so if you’re lost here, email the person or company who installed your website and ask them for your “WordPress login credentials”.\n\n### Start a New Post Draft\n\nWhen you login to your Admin Panel, you should see a menu bar to your far left. It will have a ton of tabs that are used to organize the various methods of managing your website. Look for the tab that reads “Posts” with a thumbtack icon next to it. This tab should be near the top and underneath the “Home” tab. Click on the “Posts” tab.\n\nIf your website has existing blog posts, you’ll see them listed here. If your website is brand new and this is your first blog post, you’ll likely see an example “My First Blog Post”. Either way, click on “Add New” in the top-left corner of the Posts screen.\n\n### Categories VS Tags\n\nCategories and Tags are easily confused, but they’re really quite simple. Tags are simply subcategories of your predetermined categories. For instance, if you owned a blog that gave reviews on the latest gadgets and gizmos, you’d probably have categories such as Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Motorolla, ect… And your tags would include the subcategories in each blog post. For instance if you wrote a blog post about how awesome the new iPhone 6 is, you’d probably add tags like iPhone, IOS, Silver-iPhone, Gold-iPhone, Space-Grey-iPhone, ect…\n\n##### Categories\n\nSpecific to the whole blog, rather than to each individual post. Another way to look at it is they’re larger categories that you can fit subcategories (tags) into.\n\n##### Tags\n\nTags are specific to the blog post, rather than to the whole blog. Tags are more focused descriptions of the specific blog post you’re writing.\n\n### Adding Images\n\nImages are relatively easy to incorporate. Simply navigate to the Media tab on the far-left menu of your WordPress Dashboard. Once you click the tab you’ll be taken to a page that looks like the image above. You’ll see a list of any images you’ve added. You’ll also see a link at the top of the page that reads “Add New”. To include an image in your blog post, first upload your file via the Media Panel, then navigate to your blog post and click the image icon in the top bar of your visual editor.\n\n### Recovering Lost or Accidentally Deleted Work\n\nSometimes we do stupid things, like deleting our hard work. Obviously we don’t intend on throwing our hard work into the garbage, but if it happens there’s no need to pull your hair out at a, once again, blank drawing board. In the Posts panel of your WordPress dashboard there is a link for viewing all of the revisions you’ve made to your blog post. This is where saving-draft/publishing comes in as very important. Each time you save your draft, or publish/republish your post, it gets saved in the revisions section of your WordPress dashboard hop over to these guys. If you’ve been saving your work often and have accidentally deleted your work, you’ll be able to navigate to “revisions” and select the file of the last update you completed.\n\n### Previewing Your Work\n\nIf you’re using a visual editor to create the content for you post, then you’ll have a fairly decent idea of how your content is going to appear. On the other hand, if you’re getting a bit more technical with your content by adding html tags and custom CSS then you’ll definitely want to preview the page as a whole before you publish it. Luckily, WordPress 4.1 includes a “Preview” button at the top of the post editor. Make sure you save your draft for the changes to go into effect in the preview.\n\n### Publishing Your Post\n\nOnce you have your post dialed in the way you like it and you’ve previewed it to make sure, you should run down a checklist of things to double check prior to posting. Here’s a general list of things I always double check:\n\n* ##### Categories\n\n  Make sure you’ve created and selected all of the categories your post applies to. Create new categories by navigating to Posts => Categories => Create New.\n* ##### Tags\n\n  Include any tags that apply to your specific post. Make sure to be specific with your tags. For example, a post about Super Mario Brothers for Super Nintendo may include a tag that looks like this, “super-nintendo-mario-brothers-tricks”.\n* ##### Links\n\n  If you’ve included any links to external or internal webpages, it’s generally a good idea to test them from the preview page. Make sure all of your links are working correctly prior to publishing your work.\n* ##### Spelling & Grammar\n\n  This one’s a given, but definitely worth listing. It’s very tempting to neglect proof reading your entire post prior publishing; don’t do this!\n\n### References\n\nwordpress.org","date":"2021-02-17T02:49:00.000Z","category":["web"],"id":"e8cbf8fe-2913-5e58-964e-681471b74809"}},{"node":{"title":"Hashturbation: Let's Talk About #Hashtags","excerpt":"Working in marketing and design, we follow a number of advertising agencies on social media, particularly in Alaska, where we’re based. Recently there’s been an unsettling trend of businesses using hashtags completely inappropriately, and I’m here to draw a line in the sand. If you are an advertising agency using hashtags on social media, you are one of three things:\n\n1. Irrelevant\n2. Wrong\n3. Right\n\nI’ve heard the reasoning from a number of people that hashtags have been co-opted as a punctuation that denotes sarcasm or emphasis, but here’s the deal—for interaction designers—the people who made hashtags, they have a specific affordance, and it isn’t punctuation.\n\n## Correct Usage\n\nLet’s start with the right way to use hashtags.\n\n> A **hashtag** is a type of label or [metadata tag](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_(metadata) \"Tag (metadata)\") used on [social network](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_networking_service \"Social networking service\") and [microblogging](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microblogging \"Microblogging\") services which makes it easier for users to find messages with a specific theme or content. Users create and use hashtags by placing the hash character (or number sign) `#` in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it.\\\n> -Wikipedia\n\nHashtags are for searching. So when choosing to hashtag something, a good practice is to first ask yourself if you think that someone will want to search for your content. You can see where I’m going with this.\n\n\\#catsofinstagram is a great use of hashtags—people want to see cats on the Internet. If you’re an advertising firm and you are linking into a commonly used hashtag, well then good for you.\n\n## Irrelevance\n\nThe rub is that many agencies, in an effort to prove their relevance prove themselves to be irrelevant by misusing this interface affordance. Anyone else cringe? The hashtag hand motion was made famous by Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon in a skit over a year ago and basketball jerseys cheap that’s when it was relevant. When a firm chooses to use hashtags that simply aren’t going to be searched for, they’ve missed the boat. If your hope is to create a Twitter trend using #weluvourclients—it’s not going to happen. Another tell-tale sign of hashtag misuse is when only your employees or clients mentioned like the post. I’m going to call that hashturbation.\n\n> Hashturbation | \\[hash-ter-bey-shuh n]\\\n> noun\\\n>\n> 1. the creation and use of a hashtag which no one else will enjoy\n\n## Just Plain Wrong\n\n“But wait!” a tiny fraction of the population exclaims. “The hashtag has been appropriated as an additive to written communication on social media!”\n\n“Wrong,” I say.\n\nThe hashtag has been appropriated by a group of individuals who like tacking on relevant or irrelevant words at the end of complete sentences. I dare you to cheap jerseys search for #music and see if you get what you are looking for on Instagram.\n\n“A hashtag can indicate sarcasm!” a minority of you will point out.\n\n“True,” I say.\n\n/s, *sarcasm or palpable sarcasm can all be used to denote sarcasm equally as well and are probably used just as frequently. But just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should be done. Does anyone else remember telling a friend in elementary school something and then snidely saying “not”. Consider the usage of a hashtag as an aside or for sarcasm the digital version of that.\n\n## In Summary\n\nUse hashtags when you are tapping into a trending topic or are actually working on building a searchable social media database of content. Anything else is hashturbation and your followers will become blind to your social posts.","date":"2021-02-14T02:55:00.000Z","category":["branding","social media"],"id":"d817f5ea-2e3d-5e5e-9b6d-2552e9782907"}}]},"openWeather":{"main":{"temp":19.44},"sys":{"sunrise":1773677399,"sunset":1773720009}}},"pageContext":{}},"staticQueryHashes":["3141419394","3592296439","3649515864","426931048"]}
